Fast Facts
- Binalayan Falls derived its named as “housing” the caverns in the falls serve as housing or hide outs from the Spanish colonial masters who are hunting the freedom fighters. The caverns of the falls provide shelter and protection.
Roman and Mark are Cebu tourism advocates and a good friend of mine. They have invited me to visit Binalayan falls as part of our Cebu Expedition for the Eco Tourism Portfolio of Cebu Tourism. In the evening we strategically planned out our tight schedule for the Cebu Expedition and first of our site visit is Binalayan Falls. We ended our night with a smile and positively thinking everything will be okay despite the unpleasing weather.
Early morning the next day we pack up our bags and jump in with Marks vehicle to start our first day adventure. We traveled from the main city of Cebu going down to the south part of the province in the municipality of Samboan. As we reach the Samboan municipality we were greeted by sweet and smiling locals who are friendly guiding us the road to Binalayan falls.
Binalayan Falls has a large signage along the main road so you won’t have any problem searching for it. From the main road it’s about five minutes ride traversing slightly pave roads heading to the main entrance of Binalayan Falls. The local personnel and guards welcome us with positive smiles and lead us to the registration venue. So we pack our bags and camera as we head to the registration venue and listed ourselves up.
After listing ourselves a local guide accompanied us to the falls. Our first hike was cool and comfortable under the shades of the towering coconuts. It’s really a refreshing feeling as we gaze around the surrounding. It took us 15 minutes hike for the reason of picture taking and the hike can be done in 10 minutes which is the entry hike of our expedition.

Gushing of crystal clear water welcome our path
Unexpectedly we will be crossing various sizes of streams to reach Binalayan Falls
Some narrow streams has small version of natural pool where you can dip yourself in
The path are slippery and safety is a must so practice caution in every step of the way. Your feet is the primary vehicle for you to reach the destination
Not far from the established trail is the sweet sound of gushing water. One of the best melody a natural lover could ever ask. A small stream greeted us with its crystal clear water and cold water. Pretty inviting to just simply sit down and relax, let the water run through your body. Tip toe we cross the small streams avoiding to spoil its beauty habitat. But shortly we notice that we will be crossing more streams ahead with various sizes and length. One cannot escape the cold and chilling water.
Irresistible flowing of cold crystal clear water accompany you as you head deeper to the hearts of Binalayan Falls
As we continue our trek some of the areas has impressive shades making it more comfortable to hike. The best part of the trekking is improvise benches made from wooden carving and flat tires. One spot has a swing made of tire where you can swing above the streaming water. After a few minutes of resting and hydrating we decided to go uphill traversing the upstream of the falls. In the upper portion of the uphill lies a small yet attractive one tier falls still a part of Binalayan falls.
We spotted a small tier falls ahead of us and we are attracted to it as if we are being magnetized close to it
Improvise benches and swings are available in the nearby resting area
After a quick rest we decided to get close to the one tier falls which is part of Binalayan Falls
Fast snap shot before dipping myself to the natural pool of the first tier falls
The one tier falls has a natural pool deep enough for an adult to dive and swim around. After a few snaps of photos. We continued our hike upstream. The trial is slippery so better watch your steps. We will be passing some boulders and caverns along the way, safety first is a must. After a few minutes of river trekking we were greeted by a hypnotizing aweing beauty of Binalayan falls. We were lucky to be the first guest to arrive from the sites. This place is ideal for families and friends gathering and bonding. Just a small place but relaxing. The rock formation are astounding. Its crystal clear water is glittering and it’s alluring us to fall at the natural pool.
We climb above the first tier falls in order for us to reach the Binalayan falls. Be careful with your footing. Hold tight with the boulders.
We snap several shots of photos then we started indulging ourselves with the cold water. Relaxing after the river trekking and rough hiking. It’s a good way of preparing ourselves to our next fall’s destination which is Aguinid Falls. After enjoying our cool and relaxing bath we started suiting up for our next destination. We bid farewell and thank you to Binalayan falls for allowing us to feast its beauty and marvel.
Witnessing Binalayan Falls from a far and seeing it truly took our breathe away
As we draw closer to it we found ourselves falling for it. Truly one of natures masterpiece.
