Very close to Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, in the State of Aragua, there's a small town in the municipality of Tovar called Colonia Tovar, founded in 1841 by German immigrants. La Colonia Tovar offers us a beautiful landscape full of German-style buildings, from shops to banks that have a characteristic construction that gives us the feeling of being in a typical and old German town. You can get there by land from Caracas, 56 km away, via the Carayaca road of the State of Vargas. There is also a road from El Jarillo in the State of Miranda and another through La Victoria in the State of Aragua, 32 km away.
You can get there by private cars and also by public transport. The trip is short and pleasant, the road is in good condition and the route allows you many options of enjoyment such as horseback riding, pony, go kart, and even extreme sports activities, among them you can take courses and paraglide in its beautiful hills. There are also tourist packages that offer different rustic rides and 4-wheel motorcycles for those who are a little more risky.
In Colonia Tovar we can find delicious restaurants which delight us with the best typical German dishes, such as sausages and pork in all its presentations, the famous pork knee, and a great variety of typical German sausages, as well as delicious desserts made with fruits harvested in the area and the traditional strawberries and peaches with cream.
There are also the best and freshest fruits and vegetables for sale, and we can delight ourselves with fruits that are not common to eat in other places of Venezuela, but that are harvested here thanks to the temperate climate of the mountains and the altitude of the area (it is 1700 meters above sea level). We can find, among others, raspberries, cherries, peaches, strawberries, kiwi; and also fresh vegetables from lettuces, scallions, aubergines, broccoli, potatoes, carrots and all you can imagine. It also has a diversity of flora and different types of orchids and bromeliads.

It is also possible to emphasize that its fauna constitutes a habitat of many species that are characteristic of the cloud forest like the golden quetzal, dogs with a coat characteristic of the cold climates like labradors, chow chow, the toucan beak of emerald bottle, araguatos, hummingbird, bluebirds, swallows, the tara butterfly, among others.
The village offers us a large number of hotels, inns and cabins that range from simple to more luxurious rooms, and all with the necessary comforts for us to spend a super pleasant day and also a comfortable night.
In a stroll through its streets you will be able to observe a great amount of handicrafts available for sale, so that you can take a beautiful souvenir home with you. The beautiful crafts range from home decorations, paintings, vases and clothes, to musical instruments and toys for the little ones. The typical products of the area are also on sale, such as the delicatessen made by the inhabitants themselves, handmade beers made in the area, and even jams and delicious German sauces of all kinds.
I'm sure you'll fall in love with this place just like I did the first time I got to know it. The church and the square are beautiful, the route is unique, the climate is very pleasant and the cuisine is typical of Germany. It is, without a doubt, a place in Venezuela that everyone should visit.
