'The Wire That Small Minds Love'
Check this out! Spiked wire with razors needs no introduction to a sane mind. We've seen it in films happening during the darkest times of human history and yet here it is in 2018. Can you believe it? If I was to tell you that this steel is stretching for miles to prevent people from entering a beautiful European country called Slovenia, you wouldn't believe me, right? This day, this age, Europe today.
The feeling definitely belongs to Schindler's List or a similar film about concentration camps or a psychological drama full of perverted notions portraying some dark dystopian scenario. Well, no. This wire stretches all along Slovenian side of our mutual border. They decide to raise it on a false pretence of 'protecting borders' and keeping the 'rivers' of immigrants out of their beautiful country.
This dangerous monument to human stupidity prevents 'free movement', one of the basic documents of European Union. It makes me sick to see such a sorry display of erroneous judgement and vain example of something so utterly useless that it cannot be compared to anything bearing any notion of 'humanity'.
Neighbours live separated by the wire. Ordinary people who live in mutual love and understanding all their lives. Animals die daily a horrible death in suffering being caught in sharp steel razors and bleeding to their deaths in pain, unaware that they cannot cross where they've crossed for centuries. Croatian officials protested heavily against this arrogant absurdity but no sane answer was ever given back from the other side.
Guess what else? This wire has never stopped a single immigrant from entering. They've raised it months after a few hundred people from the middle east showed up at their border crossing. These people never went through woods and over the creeks. These people went by trains and roads. So, I ask you to tell me which sick mind was allowed to conceive and put into reality something so brutal and insane? In this very day and age!
This is Europe, a country of free people where we boast about human rights? No guys, this is Slovenia, a little country south of Vienna where Melania Trump was born, where decent people are angry with this idiocy, just as you and me. But, it is up to them to seriously ask their politicians for how much longer are they going to live in a prison of someone's delusions.
Unfortunately, this sad fact is far from a joke...

Nice post @velimir.
I saw this on aljazeera sometime last year, but i didn't follow up on it. But your post spurred me to read about it more seeing that those wires that they said was temporal is becoming permanent. But they were all one before, Croatia, slovenia, Bosnia basically, this is so complicated that i'll just say - brothers that were once united and that acted normal, then wars wars wars and then they got into a fight, and they now consider themselves completely different from each other and they mostly can’t stand each other.
The thing is no wire can stop people or anyone from finding their way. It was really not necessary. Look how much money was wasted on those wires.
For the slovenians there,i just hope they were compensated for the steel wires that was forgotten on that fence after the whole migration issue ended.
I even heard then that slovenia said that the reason for the steel wiring was for the sole purpose of redirection, but i never knew it was still there tilli read this post.
But seriously that whole stunt by slovenia was not necessary.
If i may ask @velimir, how does the wires hurt wild life, because aside from the first picture, there isn't any other picture that shows fallen wires.
If the wires are fallen, then it must be a danger to people and their animals. Because the grasses there would have covered some of the wires and that is danger zone. I seriously pity the animals really, especially while they are running or even playing, they would be ignorant of the potential threat. What about children that would go near that river in the pic.
This is totally disastrous because just like you said, the fence has not stopped refugees from crossing into Slovenia, what the hell is the point.
The thing about politics is that the people are the ones that get to suffer the consequences of the cowardice of their leaders. The same thing that happens even during war, the soldiers lives' are the ones on the line, not the dictator or so called leader that doesn't want to trade his ego for anything. Most wars we see today are a product of someone's ego coming first before the lives of their citizens. I just hope those slovenian citizens demand for good governance.
Thanks for this post. Like you said, its not a joke. 👍👍

Hi @velimir
Unfortunately, the borders of many modern states look like this. But when it comes to Europe, it looks sad.
But there is one BUT. First of all, when it comes to emigrants, this is fully justified. I've seen a lot of videos from my friends who work as truckers. There is a port in the UK where truckers come from different countries. (mainly for delivery and acceptance of goods). Near the port there is a camp of so-called "refugees". Unfortunately, the camp is full of men (the question is why do men flee the country at a time when women and children are staying there?). Behave these "refugees" very aggressively. They brake cars and cut tarpaulins on trailers. They attack truckers, they try to get on the trailer to steal cargo.
They are guests in Europe but behave as if they are masters. (and how many rapes in Europe?) It's disgusting.
All this I said about why they build fences from these "people".
But another thing is that politicians are building fences on the border with the allied states. Imposing people non-existent patriotism. This is wrong and here I agree with you.
All this is my personal opinion.
Good day
I am sad. Concertina wire is a blight on humanity as surely as landmines. It just shouldn't happen.
What caused this incredible rise in nationalism? I'm living in the prime example and do not understand, do not comprehend at all.
I live practically in the shadow of George Bush's border wall. Which replaced the previous border wall and is scheduled to be replaced by the 'new wall' of the new president. It's lunacy, and it hurts my heart.
I am sorry that you even had to look at that wire.
It's really absurd. I'm feeling itch while looking at images. On one side, the unity of world is discussed while on the other side their mentality is too narrow.
I won't say that these are great pictures, as these for sure are clicked good but all this wire separating slovenia is absurd. :(
Europe is not so good as people think...
Beautyfull photgraphs @velimir !

@davidamsterdam, why did you say "Europe is not so good as people think?"
Such a beautiful moment "photographed" @velimir
Did you read the blog?
lmao...
sometimes, some people...
:D thx man... @davidamsterdam
Yes, it makes me tired and it is just not nice..
Usually, this kinda wire is used to separate two countries,
There are other uses as well, here in Pakistan we use this in the parks around the pool to keep children safe,
we also use this on our parapet to keep thief away from our home.
Touching write-up, sad yet true. It's baffling how some countries in this present day still behave as if they're living in the horrible past. Maybe articles such as these and many more can draw more attention to such follies.
Tragedy is we still have always plenty of funds for wars even in these technological most advanced times of the human history. The weapons were invented to defend ourselves from animals but every medicine has its side effects.
It does feel strange and sickening to see such barriers between nations and people.
I rode through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia. I was lucky, I have a UK passport and passage between most nations is easy. Yet, that red UK passport doesn’t make me a better person than any other, or a worse person. It simply mirrors a geographical accident of birth.
Riding and smiling as ever ….. thanks for the post @velimir … Geoff
Its funny how we tend to focus on more historical history than look to the future. Our mentality needs to be restructured to make us believe unity is the way forward. This wire isnt only limited to countries. It happens in neighbourhoods too. We've actually hurt more humans with technology than we've done to animals.
Beautiful detailed art potraying two world.
Well, it's emotional for me to read and reply such a post - being a Jewish.
This situation is really hard to see, not only it's again the European union law - it's also futile! the declared goal of it is fishy and questionable and in reality - it just doesn't help in achieving this declared cause. so why did they do it?in order to tell themselves and the people that "they do something"?!
This is a waste of money, a scar to the nature and landscape, and if it harms animals - it's even worse!
now - the refugees issue might arise concern regarding the threats of terrorists using the opportunity they have to enter into countries for harmful reasons - but the way you describe it, this threat is just ignored and being covered by a "solution" that solves nothing - a human way is needed to make sure the refugees are real refugees and not terrorists, that's for sure, but it doesn't have to be such an offensive wire wall.
I can also imagine the misery of people who used to walk a few steps from place to place and now have to drive and go though guarded gates just for a visit to a neighbor!
The positive side is that it's snowing - and even with that ugly fence - the country is beautiful.
I want to go to Europe. ;)

Gloomy picture and tragic story of your 'historical journey'. Living in the post-conflict zone is scary. Based on my personal experience, conflict making people suspicious.
On my opinion, what I think about the meaning of wires of the wall, is that they are just meant to be there as boundaries, and to signify peace.
