Motorcycle Travel Series by @velimir 'Zagorje' (Part #178)

History is a weird thing. It has always been written by the ones who won the battles. That doesn't make it an exact science like math is, for example. In math, just like with computers, everything bends to logic. History is a completely different game. A selective science, if we want to be rude toward historians. The "historical evidence" is always favouring the guys who conquered other guys and had the privilege to write what we read today. It is all prone to discussion, nothing is set in stone, no matter if it is the truth.

This is a painting of Croatian parliament back in 1848. We see a rowdy bunch of guys making sure they keep their place in the grander scheme of things by whatever means necessary. Well, that didn't change much to this day.

If we go deeper into the history we'll hear something called "The Enlightenment movement". Here is an image showing the main characters. It was a movement which made sure that feudalism saw its final days in this corner of the world. Funny fact is that it was led by a Count. It was an enlightened Count, that's for sure. :)

Count Janko Drasković is the one on the left and Ljudevit Gaj, linguist, politician, journalist and writer is the one on the right side. You can only imagine how much Catholic church hated the whole idea. In feudal times, the clergy was the major feudalist with huge amounts of land.

And this photograph with a shadow over the guy's face is viceroy Jelačić, a renown figure in Croatian history who fought the Hungarians off Croatian lands and established the present-day northern border. A huge statue of him on a horse with his sabre pointing north was then erected in the middle of Zagreb's main square. The symbolism was obvious and fully intended.

The Yugoslav communist's regime based in Belgrade, Serbia, took the horseman down after the Second world war, as it was a Croatian national symbol. It was put back in its place during the Homeland war 1991-1995 but this time the statue was turned pointing south, to where it's pointing to these days.

So much for brotherly love in these areas. :D

Enjoy your day! :)

The painting shows how creative our ancestor was. Such a visit shows emotional thoughts about earlier days.

Thanks for information dude.

Motorcycle travel is very very fun. And these pictures tell a lot of old history.

Like you said , History is written by winners.
What is known to us might not even be true.

As you presented, i see history as a tower of flats.
Each flat contains valuable informations of the owners who are the men in the history. Now we see a fantastic and gorgeous tower we can admire.
It is like everything is built rock on top of another
History is fantastic.
BAB--

It's a traditional history in ever years goes on,,,,,, @velimir

The symbolism was obvious and fully intended.

HAHAHA! Genious. Great, as always.

Bile su to teške godine za naše zemlje. Valjda će mlađe generacije biti malo pametnije.

I don't know where you live but it looks lovely! I love "wild" spaces

You have beautifully put this phenomenon in words. So much for having the story from both sides! I sometimes feel that no historian or even journalist is unbiased. May it be subtle or prominent, personal views always reflect from the writings of all authors.
