Las Vegas: Epcot for Adults

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Before I post anything about our recent adventures, including our hike to a giant potato chip, I still have several hundred photos from Vegas that I have yet to share. Don’t worry, I promise not to post three hundred pictures of Elvis impersonators...Speaking of which, I find it odd and somewhat disappointing that there are so many Elvis impersonators in Vegas, yet no Sinatra impersonators. What’s with that? But I digress...Though the Elvis lookalikes and other odd street performers didn’t capture my attention, I was very impressed and delighted by the architecture and design of the casinos. In short, Las Vegas is an Epcot for adults.

If you look passed the poor marketing choices featuring the trashiest bar and cheapest beer, I thought that was a pretty sweet shot. Where else in the world can you see the Eiffel Tower from the Brooklyn Bridge? Or even the Chrysler Building from the Brooklyn Bridge and they're in the same city! New York, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice…the only way to see it all in one night is to walk the Vegas strip. With all these internationally themed casinos, the only major city not represented is London (my favorite).

Where else in the world can you have dinner at the Eiffel Tower and then walk across the street to make a wish in the Trevi Fountain, or take a ride in a gondola, or marvel at the statue of David?

If you've had enough to drink, you can almost trick yourself into thinking you're actually in Paris or Rome…almost. Though the weekend getaway to a new city was a shot in the arm for my travel bug, all of the European replicas made me hungry for the real thing. (It's been five years since my last international adventure!) So perhaps Elvis is not the only impersonation in Vegas—every casino is an impersonation of a magnificent city.

Between Vegas and Nashville (where they have a full scale replica of the Parthenon), Michael and I have visited faux Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, and Greece, and I look forward to seeing the originals with him someday.

…And yes, that is an Ewok wallet/clutch I was sporting while all dressed up. That's just the kind of gal I am.

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more of our adventures!
