Do you know that the biggest Thai festival - SONGKRAN - starts tomorrow? π€π¦ This water festival is the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year. πΉπ
We are very excited, because we are still in Thailand and for the first time in our life we will participate in such an event. We're counting down the hours! π
I will put a more extensive photorelation from the festival after the end of the celebrations.
Today, while we remain on the Buddhism subject, I will share with you photos and video from the last visit of the Big Buddha on Phuket Island.π΄
Big Buddha, known among Thai people as Buddha Phra Puttamingmongkola Akenakkiriego, was built in 2004 as the main statue of Phuket. It is 45 meters high and 25 meters in diameter at the base.
The whole statue is built of reinforced concrete, arranged in a beautiful maroon white jade marble that shines in the sun.

The statue is located on the top of the Nakkerd Hill. Its location allows you to see it from the most distant places of the island, such as Phuket Town or Karon beach. The hill offers the best possible views of the entire island - 360 degrees, with the city of Phuket, Kata, Karon, Chalong Bay and more. The views are really breathtaking!
Because the Big Buddha is a place of religious cult, men and women must dress appropriately!
Make sure that your shoulders, back, stomach and knees are covered, avoid the tank tops, short (before the knee) skirts / dresses / shorts, T-shirts with offensive text or images. If you dress a little bit too boldly, you can buy a sarong to cover up too exposed parts of the body.
Next to the main Big Buddha there is also a smaller, golden color Buddha statue, made entirely of brass. In the area there are also many other, much smaller statues of Buddha and venerable Monks.
The whole project was financed with donations. Entrance to the property is for free, but do not forget to leave a donation to support this very expensive project!
You can get here quite easily by a 6-kilometer road leading from the island's main route.
The Big Buddha is one of the most important monuments of the island and it is definitely a MUST SEE during your stay in Phuket!
Thank you very much for your attention!
