My Travel Bucket List: Destination #2 - Sweden

in #travel7 years ago

Well, SWEDEN is destination number 2 on my Travel Bucket List. There are so many things that attract me to having an adventure in Sweden: Some of the old and historic towns that need to be explored. I almost feel like it is imperative that I explore as much of this country as I possibly can - I don’t want to miss out on anything that it can offer me. I have been told that traveling by train is the best way to see the beautiful landscapes and magnificent old towns.

I have been given quite a few great ideas of things to do and see around Sweden and my aim is to try them all. But, I have narrowed them all down to a top 10 list. I hope you enjoy the list and that it inspires you to give them a try or create a list of your own.

My Awesome List Of Kickass Things To Do And See in Sweden:

  1. Liseberg: This is a huge amusement park in Gottenburg and said to be one of the most popular things to do in Sweden. I am personally a bit of an adrenaline junkie (with a few minor boundaries). So, this would probably be a really good cherry on top for me.

2.The Höga Kusten Trail or High Coast Trail: This is the best way to soak in any scenery. On this trail you could expect to experience various surroundings like coastal cliffs, green pastures, forests and bays. Witnessing breathtaking scenery like this is always a plus.

3.Join in on celebrating Valborg: Valborg is a traditional festival that is celebrated on the last day of April every year. Bonfires, dancing under the stars, and getting social with wonderful people. If you can’t see the fun in that, then I don’t know.

4.The Midnight Sun: In summer, the sun literally never sets! So, you could experience the sun in the sky at midnight! That is exciting - The sun-downers never have to end!!

5.Visit some castles: I LOVE old buildings (not just because they photograph well), and the history they come with. Sweden has many beautiful castles scattered around the country, like Drottningholm and Gripsholms.

6.Picking Strawberries and Blueberries: These delicious fruits grow wildly around Sweden in the summer. Imagine going into the wild to gather your breakfast. Sounds fun.

7.The Northern Lights: In winter, you could have the chance to witness the Northern Lights. I have been told that there is never a 100% chance that you will see the lights, but your best bet is to head up to Abisko to give it a try.

8.Snowmobile Ride: To add to my adrenaline list, a trail on a Snowmobile would be perfect. It would kind of make me feel like a ranger facing tough terrain to get from town to town - with a dash of beauty on either side.

9.SAUNA, baby!: Catch a detoxifying and revitalizing session in a proper Swedish sauna. This is something that my body craves even as I am writing about it. Like 10 times better than a hot shower.

10.Dog Sledding in Lapland: Imagine traveling through the last free wilderness in Europe, in a traditional way - dog sledding. Lapland is like the closest thing to the North Pole that one could experience.

Along with all of these amazing things to do in Sweden, trying the traditional cuisine from around the country is a constant on my list. Some of the best traditional dishes are seasonal so I will have to plan carefully.

Well, that’s my list. I hope you enjoyed it. I appreciate any tips or activities to add to my list. I am sure there are things that I have never even heard about, so I WANT THEM ON MY LIST!
