Are there any Steemians along this cross-country route?

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I've said for a long time that the best way to get to know someone and whether or not you'll get along with them in the long term is to take a good long road trip with them.

The same is true of solo trips.

As I said in a previous post, I've been kicking around the idea of an extensive solo road trip around the western half of the US. Rent a nice vehicle worth sleeping in, pack a bunch of film/digital/video/audio gear, and just drive. If this thing actually comes to fruition - well, first of all it won't be for a while. Probably not this year. But if it does, I think it would be cool to stop and hang with some fellow Steemians around the country. So far, aside from 3 visits with family & friends, I'll be sleeping in my vehicle a lot throughout my trip, so having the ability to stop along the route at a chill place to hang and take a shower would be nice.

This is just a first draft of my route. I'm sure it'll go through its own fine-tuned evolution before it ends up happening.
Drive time is slated to be 100 total hours (just over 4 days), not including stops for rests, visits, or photo opportunities - the last of which I plan to make many. I'd say I can knock this out in less than 10 days.

Here's the list of stops along the way:

So yeah, who lives near any of those places,
or near that crazy blue line??

You are traveling straight through my playground in Colorado! I see you're skiiipping going through Denver and I70 west. Bummer. You'll miss Glenwood Canyon. However, it does look like you'll be passing directly through my hometown Glenwood Springs which I HIGHLY recommend you stop and spend a night or two in. Yes. It's better then Aspen, imo. Glenwood Caverns has the giant swing up on top of the mountain and it's projection gives you a fantastic view of the canyon. ALSO I highly recommend the hike up to Hanging Lake which is located in the canyon too. There's also the gorgeous historic Hotel Colorado for a night's stay too, in Glenwood. Another thing. You're headed to the 4 corners area of Colorado, you should run into Cortez Co and make a stop at Mesa Verde to see the ancient indian ruins. There's also an excellent Thai restaurant in Cortez that I highly recommend!! And I see you're headed to Grand Canyon. On the way, I highly recommend stopping and seeing Antelope Canyon as it will take your breath away!! For different reasons then the Grand Canyon will. And.. .rather then just shooting straight west to Utah in I70, might I suggest 2 scenic routes. One over Grand Mesa and another just into Utah that is a scenic drive that drops you out at Moab. I would also highly recommend dropping a bit south in Montana and hitting the Black Hills rather then just the straight shot across N Dakota cause that is going to be one very long drive across that state!

Actually, I have family and friends in the parts of Colorado that I'm cutting through (Alma and Colorado Springs), which is really the only reason I have for even touching down there at all. Been to Denver before, though. I love the mountains.

You're still going to be passing through Glenwood and such! Lemme know if you decide to check out any of my suggestions. Of them all I would squeeze in Hanging Lake and the scenic turnoff in Utah to Moab! 😁 And checking out Antelope Canyon cause they're all directly on you way.

Skipping LA is a good plan.

Yeah, I really have no desire.

A great route that you have chosen, without a doubt it will be a great experience, we will be anxious waiting to see the images.
I wish you much success in this tour @winstonwolfe

To the question in your title, my Magic 8-Ball says:

Outlook not so good

Hi! I'm a bot, and this answer was posted automatically. Check this post out for more information.

perhaps when u visiting east coast .

That looks like a great route. You can steem chat me about the Pacific NW part of your route. Some fresh roasted coffee and maybe a shower could be arranged.

Live north of Seattle WA. Would be cool to meet up!

I am absolutely on the way!!!

...and by on the way, I mean, Live on the East Coast, up around Boston, and no where near your route on the way.

Lol! You are going all around me, but no where near me! Although if you are in Springfield, MO, we will be near THERE next month... I was thinking about doing a similar post, see if there are any people who want to meet in Arkansas and dig some crystals!

We are down in Harrison and go up to Springfield pretty regularly. Should do lunch one of these days.

Oh nice. My other half, @jazzyfish, is from Harrison. We go down there pretty regularly as well.

Hey @winstonwolfe. You could use the new @s-h-e-p initiative on Steem. Just use #shep-heard in the tag and you may get some responses. Also check out @shep-heard for more details
