Hey there my Steemit friends! Art can take so many different form and in this four part series we highlight the cross over between religion and art showcasing the Thai Spirit Houses. I had a lot of fun traveling around Thailand this year taking in their Buddhist culture. Part of that was photographing the Thai Spirit Houses! They were seemingly everywhere!
Thai Buddhist believe in spirits and ghosts, one of the same to them. The Thai word Phi means spirit/ghost and some simply call these structure Phi Houses. They are placed in front of buildings and homes. The locals believe that spirits inhabit these Phi Houses. They offer food and other kinds of things to them regularly as you will see in the photos.
The whole concept behind the Spirit Houses is to keep the spirits happy, and in turn they will bring you good luck and fortune while simultaneously warding of bad things from happening to you. These photos were mostly taken in Bangkok a mega city, Chiang Mai a small city, and Pai a small town. I bet you can can tell which photos were taken where. Now let's have a little tour of some of the "Phi" Houses in Thailand.
