How unrealistic is it to travel the world as a nomad, with no real intention of ever coming home and only a few thousand pounds in my pocket?

in #travel7 years ago

I have been lucky enough to be doing it for 4 years and have travelled extensively through 45 countries, working along the way.

Its definitely the best decision i have and will ever make.

I met my amazing girlfriend while living on the opposite side of the planet.

You cant explain what travelling does you until you do it yourself.

I reccomend anyone to do it, even if you are short for cash you can do it.

You can work your way around, get a work visa for a country, work, travel and then work somewhere else.

Many people have got it wrong in their answers. You can easily find work around the world. I am engineer but haven't done anything like it since I left home.

Some of the jobs I have had:

Sound technician crew
Landscaper
Farm manager
Golf course crew
Barman
Light installation
Vintage carousel maintenance
Fruit picking
Tree surgeon
Irrigation technician
If you put yourself out there you can try so many new things and find what you actually like doing.

I am never going back to England.

You can easily work in New Zealand, Australia, Europe, throughout Asia (don't really need a work visa and can teach English) if your lucky enough you might get a visa for Canada. Start as young as possible so you can use all your visas.

You don't need much more than 3k to leave home, just book a flight and a hostel and you will find most people in the hostels are in the same position.

England is unfortunately only going one way. Leave, go and see how other countries, try new things and unfortunately you will never want to go back. It's hard knowing that I wont be with my family but it's your life and you have to do what you want.

Your eyes will be opened when you meet other cultures and your views in the way the world works all changes!

The biggest problem with travelling for so long is that it's hard to decide what you want. Most people don't actually choose what they want in life, the biggest decision in most people life's is what new trainers they want or what tv channel to watch.

When you go travelling you can genuinely do anything, this year I am undecided on a ski season in Banff, Canada, or going back to New Zealand for the summer.

Trust me I'm not complaining!

Me and my girlfriend work for a few months, until we have enough money and travel new countries for as long as possible, then repeat.

I am currently living in Vancouver, working on a private golf course and here is my view while I write this:

Everyday i love my life, if i dont like something i can change it instantly

Seriously, you don't need loads of money.

ANYONE READING THIS AND IS UNDECIDED ABOUT TRAVELLING, GO, IT WILL BE THE BEST INVESTMENT YOU WILL EVER MAKE.

IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE…

If you want any advice message me.

Good luck

Glad to read this post. I think people tend to do things based on their genetic made up. I remember climbing a tall mount. I was exhausted and I thought, "why am I doing this? If I stayed at home I would have been able to enjoy my time". But deep inside there is a voice that says "move on, keep going" lol. welcome to steemit. followed n upvoted

I agree, sometimes when things get hard you question yourself. But if you stayed laying on the sofa, you would have been asking even more questions of yourself!

Welcome to steemit @worldtravelers ! I found your post so inspirational. I also want to travel the world, but I'm currently saving up money and finishing my degree :D Have you visited Japan?
