Another Vignette from the Road
Here is the very small town of river rats known as Lansing. This is the place I mentioned before where you can see so many bald eagles. I spotted two on the way out, but not by the river.
Janky, angular bridge. Driving across this, quite high up so boats can pass under, they left the angles to drive over like very iffy humps.
A view.
Into Wisconsin and across the swampy river land, lots of muskies to fish, I'm told. This road makes me a little anxious due to the chance of sinkholes opening up.
It sure is pretty, though!
And here we have bluffs on the Wisconsin side. This is characteristic of the Driftless Area, hills where the rest of the Upper Midwest is flat. Where the glaciers couldn't shove each other any further and let the baby Mississippi trickle out underneath.
The powerplant downriver from the lock and dam.
Complete with train tracks, bound northward and southward.
A nice view of Ole Muddy from on top of a bluff. Cameras never do the distance like this justice, so I hope you can feel the soft wind.
And now, the preview!
Check out the previous entries for the Driftless Area below!
Check the later links, some of them might still be fresh and piping hot!
