In this post you can see black and white and coloured photos of the unique rock formations that were built by lime and clay minerals sedimentation.
!
Since the formations are on sealevel they get washed out more and more by the waves that hit the rocks. This is how Blow holes get created. The water finds a little passwa trough the stones and blows in the air with enourmous pressure. The effect looks like a geysire.
The water blow ups always happen somewhere different so it very hard to predict them or to take a photo in the right moment. But we were so fascinated by the rock formations that we did not feel to bad about not getting the perfect shot of this extra.
The Pancake Rocks are north of Greymouth on the South Island of New Zealand and the sea you can see is the Tasmanian sea. You reach the place with the State Highway 6.
I remember that close to the Pancake Rocks there were some people selling amazing manuka honey. If you ever pass by give this honey a try. It is amazing and supoosed to have many healing effects.
I remember me and my friends were really silent enjoying the magic of this beautiful place. The sea was wild and irascible so we had to stay calm and at peace.
I remembered looking at the rocks that they were used for a BBC documentary about dinosaurs that I loved to watch as a child. In this link you can find the episode. At minute 3 you can see the Pancake rocks with some breeding Ornithocheirus. The last shot that shows me with some other dinosaurs was taken in Wellington in the Te Papa museum.
