Victoria Falls - The Ultimate Bucket List Experience! - Dtube Travel

in #travel7 years ago

Join us this week as we discover the largest waterfalls in the world located in southern Africa on the Zambezi River between the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Falls are 1,708 meters wide and 108 meters high which means they are neither the highest nor the widest Falls in the world but that is still the largest curtain of falling water on the planet.

Victoria Falls are also known as "Mosi oa-Tunya" ("the smoke that thunders") which is not a surprise at all because there are 550 million liters of water that drop every minute over the cliff and continue to flow downstream.

Europeans first discovered the Falls in 1855 when David Livingstone, a Scottish missionary and explorer, visited the area. He named the Falls after Queen Victoria in England.

Today the Falls are one of the seven wonders of the world along with the Great Barrier Reef, the Grand Canyon, the Aurora Borealis, the Paricutin volcano, the Harbour of Rio de Janeiro and Mount Everest.
