The massive imposing structure of the Kremlin sits at one end of Red Square in Moscow and simply can't be missed. However it took us several frustrating days to actually find the way in.
We first tried to access through Red Square, but found the gates to the square locked with no way in, so we walked a bit further and same result, by now we were half way around the square and a long way from where we needed to be. We came back the next morning and tried to enter via the Alexander Gardens, however we also found these closed and the gates were locked and guarded.
There appeared to be many other tourists wandering lost the same as us. There were no signs indicating which way to go, so my wife took the initiative and spoke to one of the guards through the fence. He pulled his mobile phone from his pocket and showed her this.
I felt like we were in a spy movie, or perhaps unlocking the secrets to the Da Vinci code as we set of on our path...we walked around the garden and behind the bridge. We Were there! .......And so were several thousand other people, lol who obviously knew where to go. There were doors gates and lines everywhere, we found the shortest line and after an hour wait we got a general admission ticket to the central courtyard and churches. Next we needed to find the entrance for this particular ticket, and after another short walk through the garden we were in and making our way across the large bridge into the fortified grounds of the Kremlin...
. .The Kremlin is considered to be the symbol of the Russian statehood, and is included into the UNESCO List of World Cultural and Natural Heritage sites. Today we would be visiting the Cathedral Square which consists of the Assumption, Archangel's and Annunciation cathedrals, the Church of Laying Our Lady's Holy Robe, the Patriarch's Palace with the Twelve Apostles' Church and the Ivan the Great Bell-Tower complex.
Here are some of our pics, from a day walking around the Cathedral Square at the Kremlin.
THE KREMLIN
. . . . . . . . . . .Unfortunately, they wouldn't let us take photos inside the buildings but I can assure you they were every bit as beautiful as the outside.
. .Have a great day Steemers!
