Dubai is the city that everyone talks about due to its undeniable charms. But, the continual debates of this mysterious city definitely spark your curiosity. Not knowing what to expect before traveling to this city definitely left you puzzled. After spending a few weeks in here, here are the things that you should know before heading to Dubai.
More Men Than Women
Yes, you didn't see it wrong. It is indeed more men than women in Dubai. According to the report from The National UAE, the population of men shockingly outnumbered the population women by far. Can you believe that three-quarters of the UAE population are men! Honestly, I don't. But, until I've been there and I was so surprised that 8 out of 10 people on the street are mostly men.
Exotic Vehicles Are Next Level Here
It's typical to see luxury vehicles around your city. But, luxury cars here are brought up to the next level. The extravagance of opulence on a vehicle is not what you can I could imagine. Never have I seen that many of limited Mustang bolting around the town, fluoresce Lamborghini flashing on the street and the overly exaggerated limousine that one's wish for. You wouldn't believe me that cops here are using a Ferrari, making it the fastest police car in the world! If you're a car lover, why wait? Visit Dubai to see for yourself.
Dubai Is No Difference Than A European Country
If you think Dubai is just a typical conservative city, well, you're wrong. It's correct that you need to cover up at some places. But, most of the time, you're free to wear whatever you want. Forget about all the cover-ups at the beach, bring on your bikini's game. No one else is going to stare at you or give you a fine for being too revealing. However, if the area you're at is prohibited to any revealing clothing, respect the rules and culture, cover up yourself with scarfs or jacket.
Food Here Are Exquisite
Don't be put-off by the fiery looking curries or the mountain high of rice that you're being served. As a cosmopolitan city, a plethora of choices of food is lining up for you to choose from. However, not many realized that the authentic Emirati food is the real deal in Dubai. Due to the high influx of Indian migrants in the UAE, of course, you'll find many Emirati dishes has a similarity to Indian cuisine. Indian spices are widely used in many ways of cooking a traditional Emirati food. Now you don't even need to travel to Indian to have a taste of spice.
More Expats Than Locals
To your surprise, there is more foreigner in Dubai than locals. There are approximately 83% of its resident has a different nationality. With all the people you interact with in Dubai, regardless of if it's a waiter, a taxi driver or a shopkeeper, there is just 1% chance of you getting to know that he or she is a local born Emiratian. As a summary, there are probably more expats walking on a street than a local here in Dubai.
Don't Think That There Are No-Alcohols
Although alcohol is strictly regulated in Dubai, it's safe to drink in Dubai if abide the rules and regulation. Hotels and bars are probably the only places you should be drinking in Dubai. Despite the extremely high-priced alcohol implied, you'll be surprised that bars and restaurant do have some great deal to quench your alcohol thirst. However, do take note that you have to be at least 21 years old to drink in Dubai, unlike Abu Dhabi where you can already buy an alcohol at 18.
A Less Glamorous Side of Dubai
Just like any other cities in the world, Dubai has a different side of a city as well. Besides the dazzling skyscrapers, Dubai definitely has a life. Head down to the traditional souk or the Dubai Creek where all the action begins. Before Dubai became a financial hub and an oil revenue based city, the fishing industry has contributed very much to the city. While the strategic location of Dubai being a neighbor country to Iran, the city has very much been an important trading hub.
So, its time to think twice if you though Dubai is just all about oil and skyscraper.
Dubai Has More Debt To The Neighbouring City
As glamorous as the city can be, the city owes Abu Dhabi more than you expect. Before the tallest tower, Burj Khalifa changed its name, it's previously named Burj Dubai. However, due to the massive loan contributed by the United Arab Emirate's president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan, the tower has changed its name to show an appreciation.
Now, you'll definitely be enlightened by these information that you'll rarely come across on the internet. Have fun in Dubai and see you the next time!
