A rainy day on the Mekong River
Exploring the floating market
I had made it to the border town of Chao Doc on my way to Cambodia. I checked into my hotel, and after visiting Sun Mountain with a motorcycle guide, I wanted to see the floating market in Chao Doc. A boat and driver was hired to take me out on the Mekong River. Unlike the floating markets that hug the shore, this one consists of large sinister looking boats anchored at scattered locations out on this enormous river. Listing a little and painted in dark colors with great angry mouths full of teeth, these boats hang samples of their wares on high poles to be seen from a distance – watermelons, bananas, and so forth.
We putted around them and then visited some floating fish farms nearer the shore. We also visited little clumps of shacks built on bamboo poles that hugged the shore, where they did weaving and sold coconut candies.
Next morning I took a fast boat up the river to the capital of Cambodia – Phnom Penh. But that’s another story.
Thats beautiful <3
Thanks @nowargraffitis. They seemed like old pirate ships.
So cool :))
