Imamiya Ebisu Shrine, or Ebessan as Japanese people say, is a small, peaceful shrine where the god of business and prosperity, which is one of the seven Gods of good fortune, is enshrined.

This shrine is famous in Osaka. The annual Toka Ebisu Festival is held at the beginning of the new year for 3 days and 3 nights. Over one million people come to worship.

When the people come to the shrine they head to the main hall to pray and pay respects to the god in the shrine. Do you know how to pray Japanese style? If you don't know about it, please follow below:

1.Prepare any coin but a five yen coin is the best coin ( it has a good meaning ) and throw it into the donation box.
2.Bow twice.
3.Clap twice.
4.Spend a moment in prayer.
5.Bow one more time.

Not far from the main hall, Ebessan sons (male staff) distribute sacred bamboo branches that people bring home for good luck or buy good luck charms to decorate with. It is also for success in business.

This is the sacred bamboo for which I bought many items to decorate. Each item has a good meaning, such as safety for your journey, prosperity, business, etc.

Around Imamiya Ebisu are many stalls along the street. All of the stalls are local foods, snacks and drinks such as takoyaki, grilled meat sticks, deep-fried chicken, and in some stalls you can play a game to try to win a prize.

If you are interested in this shrine and want to go to the festival, please come next year, as it is finished this year.
