Calling for Advice: We're Going to India!

SCRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - I woke up this morning and remembered it was REAL. We've finally booked our flights to India. It's not easy being an air sign you know - indecisiveness rules our roost, but with my bestie around last night for advice and encouragement (she's been to India many, many times) we finally booked the first leg of the journey back to our other 'home' in the UK.

We're flying into Bangkok for 2 nights from Melbourne (sorry @artemislives - time, money and circumstances mean no visit to Chang Mai - maybe on the way back!) and then fly into Delhi on March 3rd. I've already told @steemflow we're coming so I hope we have a quick steem meet-up between the 'flows!! We then vaguely plan to go to Rishikesh, but that's it - no real definite plans for where, how, or even where to stay and what to do. I do love winging it and seeing what happens, but I thought I'd ask the Travelfeed community what their recommendations might be!

Lake Inle, Burma

I expect I'll be using the wonderful [Travelfeed.io](https://travelfeed.io/) quite often over the next 8 months. How on earth I'll travel AND steem is anyone's guess, but we all need downtime on the road, and there will be quite a bit of time in Somerset visiting family where I'm sure I'll be steeming in my room keeping you updated on what adventures we have been on.

I forgot how hard it can be to organise a trip - from insurance to visas, flights to hotels. I envy people who have tons of money that can ring a broker and say 'book me on a jet from here to there!'. For interests sake, I rang Flight Centre (yeah, yeah, I know - but to be honest, we haven't had a bad experience with them for simple journeys such as Melbourne to London) but they quoted us 14,000 AUD for MEL - BKK - DEL - LDN - Montreal - Cook Islands to Melbourne. Are you freaking kidding me? I did tell her dates were flexible - there's no way on this green Earth I'd pay that much for flights! So far for two of us we've managed to get ball park figures for a third of that price. I'm booking Delhi to London today.

Looking forward to being on the road with this guy again. Sapa, Vietnam.

The other cool thing is that our beekeeper (as strange as that sounds, but that's another long story) heard we were driving to Greece and turns out they have a villa on Meganisi, which we can stay at for free! How cool is that! It pays to chat to people - you never know who can help out!

Hence, reaching out to the Travelfeed community with our ever so vague travel plans and asking for suggestions. Who might live on our route we could call in for a Steem meet up? What fabulous places should we not miss? Where's a great place to stay or eat?

Practicing my 'can't cope with anyone trying to sell me more woven bracelets' face, Vietnam.

Our plans:

March - Delhi (Northern India)

April - UK (Somerset) - buy car.

May - June - Road trip down to Greece

July - Aug - UK (Somerset base)

Aug - Sep - Road trip via Spain & Portugal to Morocco (via @trucklife-family and @vincentnijman)

Sep - October - To be Decided. Hoping for a Canadian road trip but wary of spending a fortune on RV hire! A small cheap campervan would be ideal and if a Steemian has one we could rent that would be even better!

***Thanks in advance for any advice you beautiful people might come up with - it's all being written down in a notebook. ***

Great news! You NEED to go to see the earth-built ashram in Rishikesh - @eco-alex has been busy with that project for more than a while and has a few cool steem posts about that.

Bangkok? Urgh. We always detour and avoid, cos it adds a layer of cost. MEL-KL and then KL-Delhi cheaper when I check at this end. And faster.

Holler if you're going to Crete (how could you go to Greece and miss Crete?) - my essential oil distiller, Yanni, would love to be interviewed for Natural Medicine!

NICE you have made the decision.... the Eco Villlage in Portugal will be in build phase by then too!

Yay! And we're planning Melbourne in April for my mum's 84th birthday and you won't be there. Sigh.

Sigh indeed! We looked at all options with all airlines and in the end via BKK was best. I don't mind Bangkok. Absolutely no point saying coulda woulda shoulda now lol. Will do on that earthship for sure! Can't wait.

Most important thing is you've DONE IT and are opening the cage door. That matters. We feel obliged to caution you that you may never fit back in the way you think... LOL... or you may never come back beyond a quick trip to clean up & sell. LOL. ALL GOOD.

Enjoy the process and the journey - it has already begun.

Haha true!!!! I was thinkinh that... imagine just comimg back, selling up and moving to a Greek Island or somewhere in the Himalaya. Head up, heart open.

Ps recommendations of place to stay in Bangkok?

I personally always choose to stay in Silom. Getting around in BKK can suck most of your day. The airport stay places are convenient but a cultural wasteland LOL. Silom is old Bangkok, on the river, and a handy pivot point to the amazing public transport system and the river taxis. PLUS there loads of great Indian food around there, in addition to the older, less trendy and better value Thai offerings.

No particular place - I usually use booking.com

That is ABSOLUTELY fantastic inside info ... THANKS. I love booking.com. i only use it. It's the only place that calls me a genius too haha.

rishikesh is AMAZING.. such a unique and special holy place.. Its a bit hot sometimes, but thats india! Have an amazing time and get straight out of Delhi!

Any recommendations for plaves to stay in Rishikesh or places near Rishikesh? Sooo excited!

Rishikesh is amazzzing energy.. a vegetarian city (meat is illegal to sell) alcohol is illegal.. ganga grows wild everywhere!

Dont miss The beatles cafe! Best veggie burgers ever, and amazingly cool menu full of cool rants and stories.. heres a page I photographed

Accommodation is a plenty.. it all depends on your budget! I can reccomend a beautiful ashram in the center, u join the whole daily program with many foreigners.. else, i think best chat with people when u arrive or try airbnb ... i always stayed in yogi amitrams ashram, but that is very remote and not really a place to chill as its far from the city.. ur gonna love it, especially if steemflow or someone can show u the ropes..

Definitely going to try those veggie burgers that's for sure. I have heard of The Beatles Cafe. I will send you a photo of my veggie burger from there no doubt. So excited.

I am all set to welcome the "Flows" from other land 🙏.....it is quite difficult to figure out the places to visit but if you have zeroed on "Northern India" then something must be worked out very nicely.....and i hope you already have something special👍 with choice of the places.....

Cant wait to meet you and thanks for your advice!

Me too....🤟 You are most welcome...let me know in case of any info...right there for you👍

Having spent a couple of months working in Mumbai in 2009, the best advice I have would be that if booking spur of the moment travel, use your own resources rather than a hotel concierge. I saw first hand the difference between a couple of colleagues and the result was not dissimilar to your Flight Centre pricing experience.

Have an awesome trip!!

Good call! Thanks!

You make it to Montreal, you could drop south and visit us..... by then we might have spare rooms... :)) Check distances to Northampton, Mass....There's a train part of the way, in the US....

We probably won't go to US but anything could happen amd it would be awesome to meet you in person!

I'd love to meet you too! But another country, more paperwork.... Yeah, I get that.

Happy traveling... with happy posting experiences :>) We'll be looking forward to hearing about your adventures.

Thanks so much! Bookmarking Travel Feed on my phone!

Welcome to India my dear and I am sure you will have a wonderful time.
In Northern India there are many beautiful places to see and also hill stations, but the do not miss ones are the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the Taj Mahal in Agra. Places in Uttarakhand are also very beautiful.
Wish you happy touring :-)💗

Thanks. Do you have favourite places around that area? I am so excited!

Writing down the Golden Temple!

Congratulations @riverflows! Your post brought a smile to the TravelFeed team so we have sent you a smiley. Keep up the good job. 🙂

Hope you have a great trip, it certainly sounds like it will be!
