Steem - a truly global-wide community
Steem is developing incredibly fast. Our community is growing and it's truly global-wide. We have pretty strong and lively communities not only in English-speaking countries, but also in Nigeria, Korea, Germany or Poland. And new communities are still arising.
Everyday we interact with Steemians around the world, learning new things from them and supporting each other.
Everyday new voluntary driven communities are emerging - people gather around create dynamically functioning communities around things such as science, history, photography, languages, IT, gaming, abuse fighting, politics, etc...
Meet-ups and various Steem related meetings are organised every month around the world. On occasions such as SteemFest, SteemSTEM meet-up or The London CryptoCurrency Show people knowing themselves as just as avatars and nicknames on blockchain-based social media have a chance to meet, talk, drink a coffee and spend time together.
And finally, we also have a huuuge number of travel related posts. #travel is one of the most commonly used tags on the platform. #photography is used equally frequently, and many of the photos are taken from travels or vacationa.
Thus many, if not most of us, travel. Either it is traveling to see other Steemians on some meetups of Steemfests, spending free time on holidays abroad or just doing a business trip. We are world-wide community exploring the world and sharing it here on Steem.
So now, the questions are:
- If our community is that vibrant online, why not make it even stronger and more tangible in real world?
- Why not establish even stronger bonds by meeting each other more frequently?
- And how can we achieve that goal?
Steem-based Hospitality Service
In my opinion what would really help is a kind of Steem-based service that creates opportunities to meet each other without any special events of fests that have to be organised beforehand. A service that help us, Steem individuals, to connect and meet personally. To broaden our experience of Steem into real, material life.
Let's create a CouchSurfing-like hospitality service but based on Steem and dedicated to Steemian! I've come up with this idea because as a Steemian, a traveller and user of CouchSurfing it would be amazing to host and be hosted by Steemians around the world. As one of the @steem-hikers I plan to travel around the world and meet other Steemians. And it would be great to make it possible for all steem-travellers, not only for my own purpose.
Great Visions Need to Have Their Creators
I cannot achieve that goal alone. I need help, since I am not a webmaster nor a programmer. I just have the vision and some experience as a couchsurfer, host, a traveler and a Steemian. That's why I decided to join forces with #travelfeed community. If this idea will come true, it needs real people using this service. TravelFeed community is young, but growing community of Steem-travellers and it's the best place to start my project. @for91days, @jpphotography and some other members of the community expressed interest in this and I hope that with joint forces we'll manage to make it happen!
One of the greatest members of polish community @nicniezgrublem also offered his help. He is the maker of www.glodniwiedzi.pl (@glodniwiedzy) - the first ever online editorial board that rewards it's authors in cryptocurrency. Głodni Wiedzy (pol. Hunger for Knowledge) publishes science-related articles and news that are written both by Steemians and authors outside of Steem! The authors are published, paid and promoted on the website that had been trending with it's articles on very popular polish reddit-like website wykop.pl. Rewards are paid with Steem or PLN (polish currency) equivalent of Steem, depending on how much it earned. @nicniezgrublem offered to help in creating a front- and backend loosly based on the engine of glodniwiedzy.pl that could serve our purpose!
We Need YOUR Help
The idea is on very early stage of development, so now (finally) is where we need YOU guys! Steemians, travellers, couchsurfers and everyone who's interest in this kind of service! The website of future Steem-based hospitality service should have basic CouchSurfing-like features - it should enable to register as a host in a particular city, describe yourself, your place and what can you offer as a host. It should also allow to find hosts in the place of your travel destination, and help to contact them in a convenient way. But we'd like you guys to share your ideas how it should be managed.
We have some really important questions for you, so If you would like to contribute - please share your ideas!
- Would you use that kind of service? Would you agree to be a Steem-host? Will this kind of service be used or is it too early for such an initiative? Answer frankly!
- What does this site HAS to have and what kind of features are not necessary?
- Should hosts descriptions and offers be just regular posts on their Steem accounts? Or maybe should all the posts be published through one account, just like glodniwiedzy.pl does it (all posts from glodniwiedzy.pl are published on @glodniwiedzy and original authors' accounts are linked and they gain all the SBD that their post earned).
- If this future project will collect some Steem Power - on what puprose should it use it? Upvote every host offers or maybe upvote posts that will describe meetings of Steemians through the service? Or maybe on some other purpose?
- Would you like to contribute to the project? If yes - what can you offer?
Towards Lively Steem Travellers Community
If you would like to contribute and engage more to the project, join Steemit Travellers AKA #travelfeed on our Discord or simply contact me there (same nickname - @saunter). Our dream is to have vibrant Steem-travellers community! There's no reason to stay only in blogging and photography sphere - let's broaden our travel activity on Steem to other travel-related services like hospitality. This post is just the first step which hopefully will flourish into something exciting and useful!
I like this idea! It would be great for any traveling Steemian.
I'm currently traveling with my family in an RV and maybe this could include the option for hosts to accept an RV in their driveway or yard. I imagine that it would be hard for most to host a family of 5 but they might have space for an RV.
Anyone else think that this project could include different ways to host other Steemians? You could offer a couch, a bedroom, an empty appartment, 30ft of flat driveway or a nice backyard to pitch a tent in.
Sure, what you are offering would be described in the post.
I'm also using CS, but for me Steem is something different and I have big experience on CS, so probably I would use CS still...but I think it's a perfect option for people who never heard about it and maybe can give new posibilities to them...The main idea of CS is that is for free and I'm always afraid to destroy good idea by money... Anyway as I said I think it can work :) if you need my support let me know.
It's meant to be for free and I imagine earnings from posts won't be super high ;) Main purpose is to get Steemians closer in real world. Thanks for your comment!
Hi yes you can translate my EOS post but please let the people know from where you got it in other words mention it that the original post was from me and I am good with it.
Yes! A way to meet other Steemians is something that I would really love since I travel a lot. Adding the Hangout feature and Event feature would be super helpful too, that way people could just meet without staying at their house and you could create Steem meetups right there on the same site. I might care more about those things than couch to sleep on, but having all of them as an option would be awesome. I'm no website creator or anything but I'd be interested in helping this become a reality.
I don't know if on this phase of the project and Steem community Hangout/Event feature would be useful, but for sure some kind of status "Can't host you, but can go for a coffee/show your the city" is a must for sure.
Awesome idea! I am going to contact you via discord in the next few days
Looking forward to your message!
Great idea - but there must be some incentive to join - counting on the goodwill alone might be risky in my opinion. So small incentive for a host to join, small fee for the guest to join and possibly upvotes/reewards for both at some stage.
I don't think paying for anything is a good idea. The idea behind coucnsurfing/hospitality is to do this for free. But thanks to Steem both hosts and travellers could got some crypto of course.
Anarchista z Ciebie 😂
Exactly. The small but very global Esperanto communty since 1966 has a free hospitality service called Pasporta Servo. By the way, what better opportunity to speak Esperanto!
Nice idea.
I am really happy to meet people in real. :)
