Looking for a nice place to escape the heat and busyness of Kuala Lumpur?
Let me take you on a quick tour around this park!
- Zone 1: the Free-Flight Walk-In Aviary in a tropical rainforest;
- Zone 2: connected with zone 1, also a Free-Flight Walk-In Aviary but this one is with a flowing stream;
- Zone 3: Hornbill Park;
- Zone 4: world of Parrots.
After I rested a bit from my walk through the Lake District, I bought a ticket at the counter, which is around € 15, and went inside. The entrance consists out of a swing door followed by some plastic flaps to keep the birds inside. Immediately you step into a tropical rainforest and birds are flying above you. They are looking for food or just relaxing in the sun. I'll try to share some of the bird names that I saw but I'm not really good at recognizing them.
Zone 1
First, you are greeted by the Indian Ring-necked Parakeets. Also called lovebirds which stems from their strong monogamous pair bonding and the long periods of time in which they spend sitting beside one another. Next up in the first zone, I recognized a lot of stork's. Most of them were white. Also, there were a lot of Flamingos, Pelicans, and beautiful Indian Blue Peacocks. Most of them were not really bothered by the presence of all the humans. But some of them seemed pretty curious if the humans brought any food with them.

I also saw some owls and predatory birds. Most of them were in a cage, but still had some space to move around, especially during their feeding time. I can imagine they are not allowed to fly around freely since most birds won't survive them. Maybe they should not keep these birds in this park.
Zone 2
As mentioned, zone 2 is connected to zone 1 and, in my opinion, the most beautiful bird you will find here is the Scarlet Ibis. In zone 2 you can also marvel at the world's biggest bird, the Ostrich. Fun fact from the website:
the Ostrich which has eyes that are larger than their brain.
Obviously, I did not perform a fact check on location.

Zone 3
High up in the big trees, this zone houses the majestic Rhinoceros Hornbill. There are also other Hornbill species around, some even more beautiful than others.

Zone 4
Also called the world of Parrots. Most of them fly around freely, but some are locked up in pairs because they are part of a breeding program. The Parrots are very colorful and it's a joy to watch them eat and frisk around. Other birds that can be found here are macaws, cockatoos, lories, parakeets etc.

Zone 4 also has some weirder birds like the Ostrich (again), the Cassowary, and the Emu. They are all joined by the similarity of losing their ability to fly. So, are they still birds =)
All the zones have their own feeding moments where you can watch (and sometimes even participate) the birds being fed. When you buy a ticket they will tell you the different feeding times and also the time when the shows start. Alternatively, you can check out the website of the park. I did not pay a visit to the shows since I'm not a fan of animals performing for humans.
The KL Bird Park is a fun place to visit, also with kids. Especially after exploring the Lake District during a hot day, you can take a relaxing walk in this park and recover a bit.
