Real Life Captured #303: Salinas Ecuador! Part Three (10 photos)

in #travelfeed5 years ago (edited)

Hey there friends and followers! In this "Real Life Captured Series" I do my best to bring you exactly that; the real life captured from destinations all around the world! After sixteen years of travel experience my favorite thing to do is walk around! That's right, I simply like to go to foreign countries and walk around. I observe (and now photograph) the people, food, culture, way of everyday life and bring it to you in this "Real Life Captured Series".

I recently found myself in Salinas Ecuador for an entire month this past summer. This is the premier beach destination for Ecuador and the main beach where the locals from the major city of Guayaquil come as it's only a two hour ride away.

I found this town interesting in terms of its development. It has a boardwalk that was lined with high rise condos just like you would see in Miami. The commercial activity was much more similar to that of Ecuador in general and it had somewhat of a run down vibe especially when you actually do compare it South Beach Miami. It was not peak season and it only got a little busy there on the weekends.

Fresh seafood is the thing to eat in this town and often buying it and cooking it yourself is the way to go. I would frequent the local market and get giant shrimp for as little as five dollars a pound. I really enjoyed the laid back lifestyle this town had to offer. I scored a great airbnb deal staying in a luxury high rise with swimming pool for only 300 dollars for the month. For reasons I've been continuously traveling and living internationally for over 16 years, I truly was in my "pay less get more" comfort zone here.

Moreover, I totally felt at times like I was in Miami maybe back in the 1960s, and I later learned that wealthy business men from Guayaquil who developed this area were actually trying to imitate that look and feel. I also spent some time with my good friend Ileana who appears in a few photos. Overall this is a short series but come along, and lets have a closer look at Salinas Ecuador!

I have to agree those beach photos and scenes with the high rise buildings/skyscrapers does remind me a lot of Miami!

The sand looks pretty fine as well, must be a good place to relax but $300 for a month is a pretty good deal for a luxury apartment! Guess the 16 years of travel experience comes in handy!
