This is truly a wonderful post, @derangedvisions. Congratulations on that and also the Curie vote! :-) I'm no admirer of war or warfare, but what you witnessed, and let us witness with you, was beautiful. Here's where I felt so much warmth, even if war itself is cold:

Most of them even have rips in their clothing that they have not sewn because they say that it adds to the character.

and

They told me that the troops had specific rations that they carried with them during battle and that over the course of the next few days they were going to stick to the rations that the soldiers were allowed.

make me go "wow, the love and care these people pour into this... I love that!" And it is matched by the love and care you poured into this post. I'm grateful to heven been able to witness this; I think this is the closest we can come to "keeping history alive", literally :-)

Thanks. It really was awesome to see the dedication that the campaingers put into everything. Especially the ones that have been doing it for a long time and have a large collection of cool items to look at.
