Travel with me: This is why you don't want to mis out on Mae Hong Son in Northern Thailand

in #traveling8 years ago (edited)

I'm still in hippy happy Pai in Northern Thailand and it feels like i’m continuously living in the moment right now. My travel buddy Rob and I wanted to escape Pai for a bit to explore more of Northern Thailand, so we decided to travel to Mae Hong Son. I am telling you: it was the most beautiful roadtrip I ever did in my 24 year old life and here is why:

Get off the touristy tracks and go on adventure to Mae Hong Son

Rent a scooter for 100 baht (3 dollars) a day at The Yaya scooter shop in the center of Pai, fill the tank for 80 baht (2.50 dollars) and hit the road. I promise you won’t regret this because you can enjoy mother nature in all her glory like you never did before.

It takes about 2 hours to drive to Mae Hong Son, be careful though because it might take you up to 6 hours to get to the little town because there is a chance you want to stop everywhere. The mountains and clouds were so mystical that we needed to absorb everything. Looking at the mountains you feel so small but at the same time so big because you are one with the roads.

At one time we almost ended up at the border of Myanmar because I had a feeling I needed to follow a specific road. We checked Maps.me and I couldn’t believe that we were only 5 km away from the border of Myanmar.

It was like something was pulling us in that direction. (because I that country stole my freaking heart) > https://steemit.com/travel/@rebelbuddha/photoblog-myanmar-the-golden-land-exploring-the-magical-temples-of-bagan

Caves, caves and caves

There are a lot of caves to explore in this area. The most famous one is the Cave Lodge also known as Tham Pha Puak (white cliff cave). The fun part about this tour is that you can visit this cave with a tour guide on a bamboo raft for 500 baht (14 dollar)
(share the costs). If you are comfortable enough to walk around in the dark and see some tiny/big spiders, then there's even the possibility to do a longer trekking in the Cave Lodge. I feel kind of tough right now because I survived that cave and all the bizarre looking spiders. Mama I made it.

Dreamy bamboo bridges and rice paddies in Mae Hong Son

Just 15 km outside of Mae Hong Son you can find the bamboo bridge of faith. The bridge is 500 meter long and links the temple from one side to the village. The locals came together to build the bamboo bridge so they could easily walk to the Buddhist temple. It rained once we got to the bridge, but that really didn’t matter because the place is really photogenic and peaceful. It looked just as the painting I always admired at my granddad and grandma's place. So it felt like I was walking in that painting.

"It’s not about the destination but it’s the journey that counts"

This quote suits our roadtrip so well, so if you got the chance to go to Mae Hong Son: go for it!

Cool thanks! I will link it back to my own website.. :)

Nice trip and cool pics. Just checked out your website (because the guy from above told you to link your pics to it with an automated post, I saw this before on someone else's post.. not sure what to think of those auto comments.. and you?
I'm trying to build a website on Wordpress for a while and struggling a bit with all those build in links and stuff. Looks like you've put a lot of time in yours and like the style. Good luck with Steemit.

Thank you @frankhappa .. Haha I don't know what to think about these auto comments either.. I started with my website 2 years ago..and it has been an ungoing project for a long time.. It's fun because I'm learning more a long the way. To make it more and more User friendly, SEO and these types of things. . Link building is also one of the subjects I'm still struggling with.. Have to do more research about this. Thanks, for the reminder.. and goodluck with your Wordpress website :D.

Thank you dear, same for you. Learning with tryouts every day will make a bright future.Good luck and see you around..

Have fun traveling in Thailand!
