The world is such a genuinely bizarre place where we judge things according to some random rules we think of ourselves. These days everyone is so eager to visit the Summer Palace in Beijing and see the power that emperors had back in the day with their own eyes. And guides are telling how majestic the place is and what a wonderful life the emperor had with his lovely wife. It sounds kind of funny.
Without a doubt, the Summer Palace is one of the most spectacular human-built places, don't get me wrong. However, if some rich mofo would build himself such a place using taxpayers' money... well, it wouldn't go unnoticed... Oh, wait... Vladimir Putin does it already.
Anyway, what I mean is that every time you go around those old heritage places and listen to beautiful stories about the importance of those spots, remember that it was built more on less on blood and using poor people who could not do a thing. That's how the world works and will always work. However, the thing that surprises me the most is that back in the day, the emperors all around the world had much more power to use their people for nothing more rather than showing off. All those douchebags of the 21st should be concerned about the lack of evil they do to satisfy their egos.
And yet, we pay to see those majestic places, which were built by force. How wonderful our world is, am I wrong?
