I remember feeling great excitement seeing a squirrel for the first time...

in #travelling6 years ago (edited)

I love travelling memories, they are nearly as good as real life. Photos are worth their weight in gold and so worth looking at now and then. My two photos of squirrels have prompted me to reflect on the joys of travelling. There is nothing better than actually be in different countries in person filling up one's senses, to breathe in the atmosphere, hear the sounds and see the sights. Beauty and joy is everywhere in the world. And, I see animals that live in different countries.

While I went into raptures at seeing a squirrel for the first time in Victoria on Vancouver Island our lovely Canadian friend was most blasé! Yep,I recall he said they were rodents, whereas me the visitor went into raptures at these cute little furry animals with the bushy tails. Taking a photo of these guys was another thing, they are so quick!

I was really happy with my first shot!

My second shot was not so good, I was definitely not skilled at photographing speedy squirrels.

I was up to the challenge, I was going to get a reasonable close shot of a squirrel. There had be a way but what was it? Then it struck me, I had to provide some food. Now this would be a no no because in every country including Australia feeding the animals is not good. I did not have any acorns in my bag. I rationalised that it was only going to be a few little biscuit crumbs and as soon as I got the shot I stopped and did not ever to do this again. It was worth disobeying the rule because I snapped a really impressive close up pic. I could not believe I was doing this!

These little guys are really great tourist attractions for an Australian.

Cheers

howdy angiemitchell! oh wow I thought every country in the world had squirrels! That's amazing, yes anywhere I've been in the United States has had lots of them. We have tons of them here in Texas, they are always coming into the patio and deck area and we have to yell at them to get out or else they go to the bathroom and leave messes! lol.

Haha, they sound like they are very pesty.

yes Ma'am angiemitchell that's a nice way to say it! lol. Alot of people like to shoot them but I think they're cute.

That is a mighty fat, fuzzy looking squirrel. My squirrels are scrawnier looking, but still cute. I grew up in a yard full of oak trees, and dozen of squirrels. I spent the better part of childhood pretending to be one.

I left my van door open this afternoon and sent one scurrying out of there when I returned an hour later. She must have been scavenging something for a nest.

Haha, I find squirrels cute but I am thinking that they are mischief makers too. Looking at the world through squirrel eyes sounds like a fun play ginnyannette.

Yes, that sounds like a good blog post :)

Look forward to reading it.

Nice squirrel.

Obviously fed well by the tourists!
