I just couldn't resist the chance to take up @kpine on his challenge. Thank you for stepping into the light my friend and making such a generous offer to us newbies!!
Knowing that you live in Canada, I thought that you might be interested to see what is down at the other end of the Americas and I would recommend visiting Ushuaia. Often referred to as the southernmost city, Ushuaia is located in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.

I'm originally from South Africa but relocated to South America almost 9 years ago. Living firstly in Buenos Aires, Argentina and now in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
For me, Ushuaia was like no other city I have ever visited. It has a backdrop of snow-capped mountain and then the Beagle Channel in the front, and from there on, nothing until you arrive in Antartica.

My husband and I were living in Buenos Aires and we wanted to do a road trip, so we bought a 2nd hand car and started our 3,111.8 km journey on December 19, 2012. We finally arrived in Ushuaia on December 23rd.

Although Ushuaia is a small city, if you love nature and the outdoors there is so much to see and do. Obviously, the season you visit will also determine what activities you can participate in. So although we were there at Christmas time and theoretically in Summer, the weather was still cool and crisp, but the wildflowers and in particular the lupin were spectacular.

We visited the National Park, had a BBQ near the edge of the lake, drank amazing Malbec wine. Visited the Harburton Estancia (Ranch)
which is located down the Beagle channel, we sailed past the lighthouse at the end of the world.

We saw penguins, seals and an amazing variety of birds, we ate amazing seafood ( a special mention must be made of the King Crab) and finally we took a flight from the Ushuaia Airclub down the channel.

We spent a total of 7 days there and were sad to leave but ready to continue our road trip.
We finally got back to Buenos Aires 6 weeks after leaving and we traveled a total of almost 10 thousand kilometers. An epic journey with amazing memories.
It might just be the place you would want to visit.
