Today is #TreeTuesday initiated by @old-guy-photos
I encourage you to get out your best trees today and post it to #TreeTuesday with the Old Man old guy. Don't forget to post your link in the comment section of his TreeTuesday post. It makes it so much easier to find all the posts when they are in one spot. You know how feeble the @old-man-photos is getting.
Let's help him out! Give the Old Man a break!
The Appalachian Trail. I get goosebumps just saying the name. It is pretty exciting when you are planning your first hike through on it and you just know you should be able to complete a huge amount of it.
Yeah. Well, reality struck about day two and I looked at the map and decided that I wasn't going to complete even the State by the weeks' end. Sigh Fail.
But, wait. I had no idea that so many people hiked in sections, which is exactly what I started doing after that. What a difference an attitude makes. :)
It is an amazing experience, the scenery is to die for and I will go at the drop of a hat. Again and again. Who is in? Raise your hand and I will meet you at a trailhead!
We did a hike on The Appalachian Trail this summer. One was about 38 miles in Virginia and 39 miles on the North Carolina/Tennesee border. Two separate hikes on two separate months.
This was actually mostly pretty easy but we got up to a moderate climb there towards the end of our day. We pitched a tent and called it a night. We have been doing parts of the trail for years now. Sometimes we spend a few days, once, early on we did about 5 days.
That is a long time out on the trail. There are things like work and life that get in the way and then, you just have to wait until next time
I took pictures of all the markers for the Appalachian Trail. Well, not all, but I did at the trailheads, so I would remember which ones we hit.
It is always exciting to come upon another and another. I would show you the flora and fauna, but, honestly, it is a #TreeTuesday post and I am trying to respect that.
I love it. I do. This land is your land too. Let's take care of her and enjoy her beauty. Please clean up after yourself when hiking in the forests. Thank you. Let's keep America clean.
Let the sun shine in on your life
So the joy may touch your soul

Ive always wanted to try a bit of the AT. Maybe someday...but then again like Alan Jackson sang "sometimes someday just never comes". Lovely post. Did you see the new on of @kus-knee about building or working around a tree?
Oh, come on @old-guy-photos!! I think you would only be able to do a small section as you would be snapping your trees the entire way, but, give it a go. You won't be sorry!
It is one of the most diverse and beautiful trails around.
Sometimes Someday does Come I just saw the @kus-knee post when I went to pull the tags on #TreeTuesday! Thank you for the heads up though! tip!
Oh I am a big believer in never saying never. I have lived long enough to see so many things in life play out.
I never say never. Ever. Just how old are you??
52 in a few days from now.
You old dog.

Magnificent tree images @dswwigle. I feel dwarfed just looking at them . That certainly looks like an amazing trail to walk......and photograph.
Thank you, Trudee! They were huge trees. I just love taking the long look at them when I wander through the forest. I do love the AP Trail and the photography along the trail is awesome. Unfortunately, I take few pictures because I hate carrying the camera on long hikes.
How lazy is that? Have a good night, beauty! xoxo
I hiked/camped a couple days on the AT a long time ago, it's really amazing all the history and stories that go with it, even have a couple books on it of people who did the whole trail start to finish, good stuff
I had a book about a blind man that hiked it with his dog. I just looked to get the name and sadly see he has passed. Upped
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/bill-irwin-dies-at-73-first-blind-hiker-of-appalachian-trail/2014/03/15/a12cfa1a-ab9b-11e3-af5f-4c56b834c4bf_story.html?utm_term=.51492386d3d7
I DO remember seeing a story on a blind guy doing a hike through years ago. I had no idea he had passed, but his courage and tenacity still amaze me. Thanks for pulling the story up.
That is so cool! I have done short jaunts and I too am amazed at the history and the stories told by people along the trail.
I wish that I could be out there today as it is so beautiful and a perfect day to run out into the sunshine! Someday! The long trail will be mine! tip!

love your post as I love trees. People should understand what an important role trees have performed in human history throughout different cultures. Here in Spain we still have some olive trees that were planted by the Romans...some centuries BC...that accounts for over 2000 years!
I love trees! The bigger and older they are, the more love there is! I am always so amazed at the age of some of the trees in Europe. They may be gnarly and old, but, that is only a wonderful testament to the care they have been given over the centuries.
Thank you for your comment!
If trees could talk they would tell amazing stories!
I always thought that about architecture too! If the walls could talk! I would love to hear some of those stories!
That looks like one huge old tree.
Who doesn't love a great tree??? :) Happy Wednesday!
Great tree @dswigle! happy Tuesday!
Hi, Denise! Thank you! I love to hug those trees!! I am a day late and a dollar short!! Happy Wednesday now!!! @denisechips
Happy Wednesday to you too! :)
Great story and photos Denise!! Sounds like a most wonderful way to spend a vacation to me!!
You know the AT runs along the entire Eastern section of the country, so I use the weekend to hike it and save my vacations to places far and away. I have even done hikes that are only a few hours long, and still gotten much pleasure from it.
Good morning, @deerjay! ;)
Good morning to you too Denise!! I've been on a bike trail that goes through a couple of states which was a lot of fun. My husband very rarely gets a weekend off unless it's vacation or somebody kicks the bucket :(
I'm really looking forward to getting out more this Spring and Summer though!
Oh, yes! I have spring thoughts even at this very moment. It must be this heat wave that has captured our area! It is so much nicer than we deserve at this time of year!
It has to be the area we live in! There is no time off, unless you are calling in dead, right? Even then, they want a note from the undertaker. She sighs
Have a fabulous Wednesday, my friend! @deerjay
I have to try to be more orderly. So many contests and challenges and every time I forget the treetuesday ... although I love trees! Thanks to you I will post today. Your post: again pine, majestic, beautiful ... talking about them and not about your photos because your pictures are impeccable and I do not want to repeat myself again. I would really like to do the Appalachian Trail! Unfortunately, far too far, another certainty of what I will not do in this life. I will try this summer to make a small Appalachian Trail in Thassos ...
Oh, a trail in Thassos would be even more incredible, in my opinion, Dan! You have already shown me that part of Greece in its native beauty. I have never met a place in this world that didn't have something special about it.
I wish someday, you would hike the Appalachian Trail. I have things I will never do, but, I still keep the hope in my soul.
One never knows, right? I wish for a wonderful Wednesday for you!
We all live with hope ... and that's very good. Dream and hope! Thank you! However, we have to be rational ...
@dswigle , realmente é um belíssimo post , belas fotos , adoro essas fotos
Obrigado, Fernando. Você sempre é tão gentil com suas palavras. Um dia maravilhoso para você. XO
Nice shots Denise! I had a friend who had planned to do a through hike a few years ago. She trained really hard, but had to pull out after about a month due to knee problems. She still took the time to do at least a few of the portions and loved the experience, mostly all of the people she met. I also kept up with Scott Jurek (the ultra marathoner) when he went for his record-breaking through hike--which has now been bested! 46 or 47 days is the record I believe? Absolutely nuts, but also amazing what we can push our bodies to when we really want to.
It truly is! Once you get on the trail, you just want to press your way through, but, I will be honest with you. My hat is off to anyone who can actually pull off a through hike!
Love those grand trees in your photos
I did a bit of hiking there one weekend there maybe 15 years ago I loved it
I love hiking the trail. There have been so many interesting characters that I have met along the way. last year, I met a guy who had been on the trail for three months and his girlfriend would meet him in towns further up the road and bring him supplies.
It was kind of cool and he was traveling alone, which is not uncommon on the trail, although, not for me. :)
I hope to see you along the trail someday! Maybe we can meet going opposite directions!
You never know I may do it again I remember reading about it when I was young and dreaming of one day well many days and weeks hiking the full trail
Only ever got yo do short pats of it but loved and also meet some great people
You know what? One of the biggest, best parts of the trail was the interesting characters that you meet as you wander the path.
Short spurts are just as fun as long ones. Getting out there and having fun in the most important!
Yes you are so right
Have a great day
Is the Apalachian Trail the one Bill Bryson walked? After reading his book I can never get the scene of the bears coming into their camp at night out of my mind!
Your hiking skills (and your photographic ones of course) are impressive! 😊
Haha! No, my hiking skills are not great, I am a wanderer, but, I do love to do it! And in the big scheme of things, that is all that counts! right?
Absolutely! 😍
:)
Super shots ! Beautiful !! Me too just entered today !!

That's one huge pine tree!!! Can't wait til I wake up fully and get to work on my tree tuesday...
I love the huge ponderosa pines that I had when I lived in Florida. Okay, admittedly, I just love to hug trees!
Fresh nature with beautiful tree
Hi, Roky! I love nature when it is so fresh! I hope you have a wonderful day!
Such a beautiful tree photos! Have a sweet day :)
Thank you so much. Happy #TreeTuesday!
Those are gorgeous!!!
I know!! Don't you just want to wrap your arms around them all????
Goodness, that tree is so majestic and wonderful! And the trail, wow...maybe one day I can walk that trail!
Oh, I would love that Icy! To walk the trail with you would be an honor! We could do a meetup there! Now that would be a lot of fun!

owenderfull ur photography and post
Thank you very much @riya! Have a wonderful day and Happy #TreeTuesday!
wellcome
Well at least you got the partial experience of staying out overnight in a tent or what not right?
I think I'll one day set out to hike the trail, not sure when that will come, but it is a great idea since I do love the outdoors so much. And I camp.. not just cabin camper but hardy tent and tarp.
Having the will and the want are all it is about! There are so many trailheads to start from that it doesn't matter where you start. Even if you don't camp, I think that it is a worthy experience!
Theses pictures are great Denise! Congratulations
Thank you so much, Maru! Good morning! A great way to spend a weekend, as long as the weather is a little warmer and the sun is shining in my face. :)
I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!
every day is tree day
I agree with you!
What a great trail, it felt like walking there too - i can almost smell the trees! 🌲
