Hoy es martes y por razones musicales tenía que escribir para el #ThreeTuneTuesday. Gracias a @thebighigg y @lizelle, me animé a participar hoy. ¿Y qué mejor manera de hacerlo que destacando la música venezolana con estos dos grandes cantantes y compositores? Esta es mi primera vez participando y, como amante de la música en todos los sentidos, me emocioné mucho al conocer esta dinámica. Les traigo tres joyas de la música venezolana que han dejado una huella imborrable en nuestra cultura. Aquí les comparto mis elecciones y un poquito sobre por qué estas canciones son tan especiales para mí.
Today is Tuesday and for musical reasons I had to write for #ThreeTuneTuesday. Thanks to @thebighigg and @lizelle, I was encouraged to participate today. And what better way to do it than highlighting Venezuelan music with these two great singers and songwriters? This is my first time participating and, as a music lover in every way, I was very excited to learn about this dynamic. I bring you three jewels of Venezuelan music that have left an indelible mark on our culture. Here I share with you my choices and a little bit about why these songs are so special to me.
La Tierra Tiembla de Desorden Público
Cuando escuché "La Tierra Tiembla" de Desorden Público en el año 1985, esa canción de protesta me marcó la vida. En ese tiempo, Desorden Público supo capturar la realidad social y política que estábamos viviendo en Venezuela. La letra crítica y el ritmo ska resonaron profundamente en la juventud, y es una de esas canciones que se convirtió en himno. Me gusta tanto que la tengo grabada en varios de mis pendrives, y cada vez que la escucho me transporta a esa época. También fue genial cuando Desorden la tocó con el grupo C4 Trío, una versión que le dio un toque diferente pero igual de potente. La aceptación en Venezuela fue inmediata, ya que la gente encontró en la música una forma de expresar su frustración y esperanza.
When I first heard "La Tierra Tiembla" by Desorden Público in 1985, that protest song profoundly impacted my life. At that time, Desorden Público managed to capture the social and political reality we were living in Venezuela. The critical lyrics and ska rhythm resonated deeply with the youth, making it one of those songs that became an anthem. I love it so much that I have it recorded on several of my flash drives, and every time I listen to it, it transports me back to that era. It was also amazing when Desorden performed it with the group C4 Trío, a version that gave it a different yet equally powerful touch. The acceptance in Venezuela was immediate, as people found in the music a way to express their frustration and hope.
Música de Paz" de Papa Shanty
"Música de Paz" de Papa Shanty (2005) también me encanta por su contenido, tal y como dice la canción: música de paz. En el año 2005, las cosas ya no estaban bien en Venezuela; bueno, en realidad, desde el 98 no estaban bien. Esta canción llegó en un momento donde la violencia y la desesperanza estaban presentes, y su mensaje de amor y paz fue como un bálsamo para el alma. Los ritmos suaves y la lírica positiva nos daban una especie de escape y nos recordaban que aún podíamos soñar con un futuro mejor. La aceptación en Venezuela fue notable, especialmente entre los jóvenes que buscaban una alternativa a la música más agresiva.
"Música de Paz" by Papa Shanty (2005) also resonates deeply with me due to its content. As the song states, it's truly music for peace. In 2005, things weren't going well in Venezuela; in reality, they hadn't been well since 1998. This song arrived at a time when violence and despair were prevalent, and its message of love and peace was like a balm for the soul. The smooth rhythms and positive lyrics offered us a kind of escape and reminded us that we could still dream of a better future. The acceptance in Venezuela was remarkable, especially among young people seeking an alternative to more aggressive music.
¿Comprendes Mendes? de Control Machete
¿Comprendes Mendes? de Control Machete fue un tema que resonó mucho cuando ya yo vivía en Caracas. En 1996, la canción se sentía como un grito de rebeldía contra el sistema que estábamos padeciendo en Venezuela y en toda Latinoamérica. Ese afán de las molestias era palpable y se parecía mucho a lo que estaba pasando en México en esa época. La crudeza de la letra y el ritmo pegajoso del hip-hop hicieron que esta canción se convirtiera en un himno para muchos que estaban hartos de la situación. Control Machete supo capturar ese sentimiento de frustración y resistencia que muchos compartíamos. La aceptación fue masiva, y la canción sigue siendo una de las más icónicas del género.
"Comprendes Mendes?" by Control Machete was a track that resonated deeply when I was already living in Caracas. In 1996, the song felt like a cry of rebellion against the system we were suffering under in Venezuela and throughout Latin America. This eagerness to express frustrations was palpable and closely mirrored what was happening in Mexico at the time. The rawness of the lyrics and the catchy hip-hop beat made this song an anthem for many who were fed up with the situation. Control Machete captured that feeling of frustration and resistance that many of us shared. The acceptance was massive, and the song remains one of the most iconic in the genre.
