We all heard lovers saying “I need space”. This is not only true to lovers but to trees as well. Trees know the concept of personal space. This phenomenon is called Crown Shyness- it is the tendency among trees to allow and respect one another’s space to maximize their own access to light and grow in harmony with each other. Explaination would be the possibility is that it occurs when the branches of trees (particularly those in areas with high winds) bump into each other. Another suggested explanation is that it enables the perennial plants to receive optimal light for photosynthesis.
