Eagles meeting with White House cancelled - But Why?

in #trump7 years ago

Yesterday, it was announced that President Trump had cancelled the scheduled meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles after winning the Super Bowl this year. He stated the reason behind it was:

"The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!"

This is not the first time Trump has cancelled a celebration event for a professional sports team due to the possibility of low attendance. The Golden State Warriors were supposed to meet with Trump last year after winning their 2nd NBA title in three years, yet most players said they would not attend, resulting in Trump cancelling the event.

This cancellation elicited a response from Torrey Smith, WR for the Carolina Panthers, but was a member of the Super Bowl winning Eagles. He stated:

"So many lies smh. Here are some facts:

  1. Not many people were going to go
  2. No one refused to go simply because Trump “insists” folks stand for the anthem
  3. The President continues to spread the false narrative that players are anti military"

Unfortunately this continues to be a divisive tool being used by the White House. It was already released this week that President Trump had a secret meeting with NFL owners, specifically Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and Stephen Ross of the Miami Dolphins, where he stated that he would bury the NFL by convincing fans that players hate the military. He also supposedly stated that this story is good for him because it makes him look like he is huge supporter of the military while the NFL is not, whether it is true or not.

Whether players attending the White House after winning a championship is news or not, that is yours to judge. All I know is that this continues to be a story because of false rhetoric and false propaganda. Hopefully the masses will one day see that this was all a rouse, we will come together and will stop falling for the divisive nature from this clown, the so-called "President of the United States".

I think the picture you have posted answers your question. Trump is a clown!

Trump is the best president since JFK..

Trump makes JFK look like a bloated do-nothing drug addict.

Each person is entitled to their own opinion. While I do not agree, that is definitely your right to feel that way.

As a Philadelphia Eagles fan and military veteran I fully support their decision not to visit the white house. I recently wrote a post here about the anthem protest and the NFL's motivation behind their most recent decision. If you have some free time today give it a read and let me know your thoughts.

I am with you, this drives me nuts! I hate how they have taken what CK started and turned it into something totally different. Bravo to The President for misdirecting everyone from racial injustice. I think it is interesting that the majority of NFL owners are of a certain ethnicity and you wonder how different the recent vote might have been had that not been the case...

@bozz It would have changed the vote in a major way. This has been a calculated effort in order to destroy the NFL and unity in one swoop. He has had it in for the NFL since they caused the USFL to go bankrupt. He knew the best way to turn American citizens against a predominately African American League was to insinuate that they all hate the military and that they are disrespecting folks that chose to sign up and fight. Military is all well and good when it is for the right reasons. Troops deserve support. This agenda by Trump does not and I wish people could see through the lies...amongst the hundreds of lies that are being glossed over daily. It's disgusting, but I do have hope that we can.

If it was a secret, how do you know?

Whenever players from a sports team were invited to the Whitehouse they all went and it was not a political thing. Now some want to make it a political thing and so the president is smart for avoiding a scene. Plus this keeps the chattering classes distracted while he is working to end the Korean war.

@funbobby51 My mistake. Yes, it was supposed to be a secret meeting, but the information was leaked. Whether it was by Jones or Ross themselves, i'm not too sure. The man has not done anything to end the threat of war with Korea, only stoked it by comparing button size. If if I do not like the man personally, i've always wanted him to be successful as the President. Wanting otherwise is asinine. However, he has time and time again proven unfit by his actions, including bombings without the consent of congress. The republican led congress most likely would have ok'd it, but they didn't have the chance to do so. I couldn't care less whether someone is republican or democrat. I just want politicians (or elected officials if someone wants to pin him as a non-politician) to do a good job. And I do not believe he has. More time has been spent as an agitator than a peace maker.

the strikes Schumer was praising him for? Democrats love war.
When was the last time an American president met with N Korea's leader?
when was the last time congress actually declared war?

@funbobby51 i had not heard Schumer praise him. He's an ass (meaning Schumer) much like Pelosi. To answer your question, the Iraq war and persian gulf. Dems had majority at beginning of iraq war and republicans had majority in beginning of persian gulf. Neither had ovwrwhelmingly positive results.

Both establishment parties are essentially working for the defense industry. It was funny, Schumer hated everything Trump did until he started launching missiles. Quite an Orwellian moment.

i hope this clown gets indicted, convicted and imprisoned. though i doubt he'll get all three with the republicucks we have in senate/congress. don't understand how his supporters and the republicants can go along with this clusterfuck. what is their endgame in this? short sighted gains are going to blow back for a long time.

gosh, all you need now is for him to actually commit a crime.
