I was born and raised in Georgia, just a couple hours from Elberton. There's no real mystery surrounding these stones--it's well-known who commissioned them, and who made them. There's a clear paper trail. The land and stones now belong to Elbert County, and are maintained as a local point of interest.

Tell us Rhonda, who commissioned them? And why?
Or link me, I'm fascinated 😉
They were made by the Elberton Finishing Company, at the behest of a man named Robert Christian. Some speculate that may not have been his real name, but he purchased the land and the granite in 1979 through legal and public channels. EFC did the work as ordered, and the unveiling was in March of 1980 in front of a crowd. The land originally belonged to the Mullinax family, but was later deeded to Elbert County.
