It depends on your definition of aliens I guess. It makes me wonder how some people can believe in God and not aliens, what's the difference?
There is massive amounts of evidence of highly advanced civilisation in the very distant past that appeared out of thin air, no decendants, no evidence of evolution preceding them? Poof appeared out of nowhere and then poof, gone!

But your correct, they just pop up and disappear again, and we are only looking at 1 tiny fraction in time that we have been alive. I'm all about evidence based science.
