Hmm, I don't agree. I believe you could take out 5million from the top and the world would be a better, healthier more peaceful place. The rape of the planet is driven by a group of elite families and corporations at the top of the control mechanism we currently sit under. They're are the ones driving the commercial destruction of the earth after corrupting our politicians into doing their bidding, propagandising a dumb down populace into being voracious consumers afraid of speaking out for fear of being accused of being some kind of 'ist'

I don't believe the same people raping the earth are the ones who made the guidestones, either.
I've also had a conspiracy theory in the back of my head that all of this shit is actually working together for the betterment of humanity. We'll see.
The issue is that without human intervention into the problem of our exponential population growth (doubles every 30 years or so), the environment will be come so toxic that there will be possibly many less than 500 million.

I believe there are both good and bad elites in a battle for supremacy currently so it could be either.
However I think there will be a drastic population decline in the coming decades anyway either through design or disaster.
