When it comes to a person that sounds years beyond his age no other artist comes close to Young DV. His bass range and lyrical skill complement his selection of southern musical production. Coming off his album "Cheyenne Park Radio", Young DV showed that he is no stranger to doing things independent. And it's with his latest release "No Pressure" that he reminds people why he is a Boss Player.
No Pressure. Why did you name your project that? I called it No Pressure because I was extremely hard on myself as an artist and I just wanted to get back to having fun with it and expressing myself freely. I feel like I was putting barriers on myself and “what ifs”, doubt, and what people expected from me instead of just doing me and writing with my heart like I did before. So I told myself it wasn’t No Pressure, just live. I was in my own mind, just overthinking.
Less than a year after releasing Cheyenne Park Radio you are now dropping No Pressure. Why is now the right time? I dropped Cheyenne Park Radio in August so I feel like I gotta feed the streets. I went like 2-3 years without dropping any music just for personal reasons. I was dealing with a lot. I had my son, 2 of my close friends died in like a 3 month span. Rest in Heaven T. Shoate and D Money. A lot of people that’s familiar with my music know D Money. We was locked in from the jump. That’s my brother since like 6th or 7th grade. That was tough for me, and [then] T Shoate passed. He was my brother since like freshman year. We always motivated each other. He always supported me. Probably one of the hardest workers and most driven persons I knew. His energy was always right. God takes his best soldiers young and I know for a fact that those two did Gods work while they here so I know we’ll reunite when God [feels] I finish[ed] my assignment. Lord willing. But yeah back to the question I feel like I had to put out more music and keep it rollin cuz it’s therapeutic for me and people been asking for it.
What can people get from this project that they won't find on your other projects? I think people can find motivation, wisdom, what’s on my mind, and some more insight to my life.
What's one line on the project that you think will go over people's heads? I don’t really know, I think I’m pretty straightforward in my lyrics. Maybe on “Pen & Paper” when I said “follow your heart and you gon get ridiculed, niggas will cross and try to belittle you but they are some frauds and you are original” just cuz everybody don’t understand your moves. A ton of people are stuck to old traditional ways and it’s way different game of life now. They’re stuck on going to school, get a degree, get a good job and your great. That ain’t me though, I’m not knocking it, it works great for some people and I think it’s a great tool to stack but it’s never been me. I tried that route but I just can’t do it. I get bored fast. Ain’t no cap on my salary, I’m too creative mann. I know my purpose now.
What can people expect from Young DV in 2020? Expect a project every month, more visuals and me and my whole team stock rising.
