If You're NOT Getting Attention on Steemit, Here Are Four Things You Need To Know Right NOW!

in #tutorial7 years ago (edited)

Before you start reading, I want you to acknowledge what you're doing now isn't working!

This is going to be a four part series. So, follow along and be sure to ask questions.

THING NUMBER ONE

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you

Carly Simon made a hit record writing a song about someone that thought the whole world was about them. We need her on steemit. Here's why.

No matter how amazing you may be, no matter how great your copy is, and how tight your formatting, none of this getting an audience thing is about you at all!

Nope. Not even a little bit. I'll give you one really "Yuge!" example of exactly what I mean.

If you had polled Americans in 2015 as to the likelihood of Donald Trump being president, I sincerely doubt 10% would have thought that was even worth thinking about. But, here we are.

And, although, from his rude debate interruptions, to his headline grabbing antics that left everyone talking about him, you probably thought his campaign was all about him, but you'd be wrong. No matter how much of a narcissist he is, it wasn't about him. Keep reading, I'll prove it!

What American political pundits failed to see was that while they were watching Trump, he was watching his audience. And with help from Steve Bannon, he told them exactly what they wanted to hear!

We're Gonna MAGA!

Make

America

Great

Again

It's the single greatest political slogan of all time.

Once he started saying it, and wearing that dumb red hat, it was over. It didn't matter what anyone else said. He said it first, and he already had our attention. No one else could get a word in edgewise and if they did, he'd just stick out his tongue and say...

Yeah, but who's Making America Great Again, huh?

And everyone knew the answer, even if they didn't believe it. It didn't matter! He had tapped into the greatest pain point of the conservative voter in America, and promised to fix it!

Before I go too much further, let me clear this up. I hate him. I hated her too. In general, I'm not a big fan of statist wannabe dictators. Okay? Let's move on. I'm teaching you what you want to learn, trust me!

The beauty of the Trump approach was, it was shock and awe, then immediately winning hearts and minds.

  • the people wanted something different
  • they didn't even know what that might look like
  • he became the most talked about person on the planet
  • then, he said what they wanted to hear

Learn this lesson!

If you want an audience, care about what they want, more than about what you want to say. If you're like most steemers, you're just saying anything to get attention. No offense intended, but so many are just throwing crypto news at the wall to see if it fricking sticks.

People like crypto, but there's lots of "niches" on Steemit and you need to find one.

In my next several posts,I'm going help you find your people. When you do, you can ask them, seriously, what they want to hear. There are lots of great people doing this all over the platform! It's amazing.

So, that's it for lesson one, but let me leave you with one little tip!

To save time when answering replies, do the following.

  1. Open up replies from the nav bar at the top, or by clicking your profile image.
  2. Find the first reply you want to respond to
  3. Right click on the title of that reply
  4. Choose "open link in new tab"

You'll be taken straight to the comment you wanted, not dropped at the top of a huge comment chain and asked to hike your way out. This is a HUGE time saver.

Man, right-clicking on the reply title is a huge time-saver thank you!

Right? Like right now! I just saved ten seconds on this reply! LOL

Nice one. But even this still does not work most times. I think it's a matter of good fortune with an active audience or what do you think?

I think this is a great comment! You've stated an opinion, the left room for a reply! Well done! LOL No, I don't agree. But, give it time. You're brand new. BTW, just found out, Busy.org allows you guys to use the vote slider to reset your vote power and use more votes, even with the lower bandwidth! And if you interact like this, you'll retain readers. Add one with each article and you're on your way!

Ohh, thanks for that tip about replying. I hate having to scroll for days!

I was wondering if niching down mattered here. I see people posting about whatever, whenever and had planned to do the same. I guess I need to start looking at what I enjoy writing and sticking with that, right?

Sure, of course it does. Well, I'll be explaining my ideas about finding your audience in my next couple of posts. I think it works anywhere!

Thanks for the lesson ... please post the next lesson

later today

Dunno if that'll work on smart phone or tablet. I'll have to see. Ty tho!

I know for a fact it works in Android on Chrome browser. Just hold the title and you'll get the options.

As usual, @dolphinschool is correct! It does work on Android.

I'm happy to see you growing. Thanks a lot for the tip!

Absolutely.

Well, that told us! You are on the money for sure, we do get precious about our posts and think the world should rush to hearo ur point of view. I am beginning just to enjoy the process and engage fully with what inspires. Top post.

Hey, thanks, I think finding your tribe is key, then sharing stuff they will find valuable in your own perspective. If you do that consistently, and add value and resources to the conversation, you'll gain audience.

Thanks, good article.
In fact, all of your articles that I have read have been informative. Keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks! I appreciate the encouragement.

I stopped at the second paragraph. Is this all about Trump? Do you use other analogies in your other posts?
