I am sticking with my program of watching anything that Netflix suggests for me. I realize that this might be rewarding a perhaps incorrect algorithm but whatever. Lately, "Dead to Me" was suggested and I saw that Christina Applegate (who I have liked since she played the hot, dumb daughter on "Married with Children") was in it, so I figured i would give it a go and have not been disappointed.

I'm going to try to keep this spoiler-free so I will only discuss things that are evident in the first few minutes of watching the show and likely the trailer.

Jen Harding (Applegate) is a widow whose husband was killed in a gruesome hit-and-run and she is struggling to deal with her grief and carry on with her life. She does a good job of keeping it together but has her moments where she "blows up" on people. During a grief counseling session she meets and eccentric woman named Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini ) who is at the sessions because her fiance recently passed away also. They immediately take to one another and start spending time together.

Things become more complicated when Jen and Linda start to discover that their lives are overlapped in ways that neither one of them expected and in some of the cases some terrible secrets are revealed that only we, the audience can see. I am intentionally not revealing any of these but they add SO MUCH to the story.
The story is inventive, and the acting is wonderful. This is especially true on the part of Linda Cardellini, whom I had never heard of before but seeing Applegate in a primarily non-comedic role is pretty cool as well. The fact that Jen Harding (Applegate) is a fan of my favorite type of music and it is frequently featured in this series is just an added bonus.
I give up on a lot of series. I am particularly critical of Netflix on this front because I feel as though most of their series are drawn out much longer than they need to be. However, this is the first series since I have started subscribing to Netflix earlier this year that I actually stayed up much later than I should simply because I simply had to see the next episode.
Give it a look, I don't think you will be disappointed, especially if you like death metal.
I've have been curious about that show. It looks interesting from the previews and I too have liked Christina Applegate since Married With Children (loved that show back in the day). I'm glad to read that its worth watching. I find a large portion of your reviews to be similar to my own opinions so definitely value your suggestions. :)
awesome, buddy! I think that most people will not be disappointed with this series. It is very engaging.
I was so hoping you would do a post about this! My wife and I just started watching it this weekend. The weather was fantastic though so we found ourselves outside more than we were in. We only got about half way through it. The acting and chemistry is great and the dark humor is awesome.

one of the main things I dig about it is Applegate's abilities as a serious actress. She is really good but likely isn't given the chance to shine in dramas because of her past in comedies. Will Ferrel (i always spell that wrong) is a producer as is Christina. I imagine they tried to get Brian Fantana involved but he was probably too busy with Avengers :)
Haha, I thought I saw wills name in the credits. I was so quick to move ahead to the next episode though that I wasn't sure I read it right.

I didn't know Christina Applegate was back in the game. I hadn't seen her since her participation on Friends as Rachel Green's sister. I'm gonna give it a try to this one. Thanks for sharing.
oh, she has done a lot since Friends however it has mostly been supporting roles in comedies. I could be wrong about this but I don't feel as though she has been the lead role in much, ever.
Thanks, this is the second time an actual human suggested this show to me. Besides, as an old Married With Children fan, I've got to give it a chance.
Thanks, I'll check this out!! Love these two actresses
❤️❤️❤️☕️ thanks for the recommendation!! Gonna check it out tonight
