The eye of the storm made landfall in Zhuhai, China and ripped the city a new asshole. There have been much more fatalities than what has been reported in mainstream news. Just on our block there have been at least 14 deaths. One of them was in our building's underground parking garage due to rapid flash floods as the sea washed over the harbor wall; another 11 people also drowned — in a seafood storage complex — when their boss ordered them to salvage the goods.

The damage to trees and buildings was immense along the seaside promenade called "Lover's Road". The clean up is still ongoing and many residential buildings are still without water and power.

Unfortunately, only three days after Hato, typhoon Pakhar is scheduled to land in the same region on Sunday. Hopefully, it doesn't gain power in the next 24hrs — like Hato did — and remains a T3 storm. Another Hato would be devastating.

Here is a view from the same balcony as the video was shot a few days before the storm. IMG_20170819_061403.jpg

The water level on the seaside road (Lover's Road) was over 2 meters high at the peak of the storm. Our lobby had a meter of water and the elevator shafts were completely flooded, including the underground parking garage in which 4 people got trapped and one man drowned.
