This morning I went on SteemConnect and delegated 10,000 SP to the @Steem-UA Project!
What is SteemUA?
UA calculates the "influence" of any account as a probability distribution and can be seen as a new reputation metric. Here are a few way this technology can be use:
- Detect fake account and botnet (dynamic blacklist)
- Detect genuine account (dynamic whitelist)
- Can be used as an oracle for SMTs
- Create APIs to generate an alternative "Trending" or "Hot" section on a UI
- And more!
Why Did I Delegate?
First of all, I want this project to succeed. But there is also the added benefit of having upvotes from them based on my UA score which is 7.1 (I'm really curious to see what kind of voting % I'll get from this).
What I Wish Will Happen
Steemit Delegation
I would love to see @misterdelegation give a boost to this project and help it's adoption with a generous delegation...that would definitely help the guys prove their technology.
New Trending/Hot/New UA API
I want to see the @steem-ua develop an API to generate a Trending/Hot/New algorithm that truly display great quality content. The vote buying that is happening right now does not make the experience on the feed interesting at all. From there, I'm sure many Steem front-end would be happy to use it.
Replacing the Current Reputation Score System
If this technology works as intended, I would love seeing it as the main reputation score on the Steem network. That would either require a hardfork or Steemit Inc using their API I imagine.
Using UA for SMTs Airdrops
Airdropping is the process of giving away free token to a community. With UA, we can safely determine who's a genuine user and who's a bot without requiring identity verification. It would be great to have an airdrop service that uses UA/ & SteemConnect to distribute token to the well deserving users of the Steem blockchain.

At first glance this is just silly fun. But it’s deeper then that, you see bugs or Elmer, not sure which, is responsible. No they are not In the hole, they created a wormhole. The reason for this is that they are trying to track Daffy Duck a lesson, that hurting others is hurting themselves. It’s more than a cartoon. It’s a deeply layered philosophical discussion that seems silly to a kid. Thus,it is what it is, Humor to a fool and thoughtfulness to a thinker.

The same counts for me udezee. I am pulling my steem delegations out of the vote bots to delegate it all into steem-ua. These kinds of projects is whats gonna make steem great!

So I should be sorry not kissing witnesses, not using bidbots for months catching various plagiarists on the platform. I checked my score when utopian announced their collab. I wasn’t able to remeber the number :)
Ofc boosted votes for riches makes sense, and the provided feed will be full of “rich people of steem”, more 600stu food photos, yay! bidbots already emptied their following list to game its basic PR algorithm.
So yeah why not to follow another hype.

Yeah, I regret when I post the comment while everyone so excited for no reason. How much should I know or is there a regular user friendly explanation I missed afaik it’s based on google’s pagerank algorithm which is depreciated in 2003 or 2013 I don’t remember it either.
What does top 100 means on ua list, most trustable sources? Most influencals?

Pagerank is still used by google along other algorithm (we just don't have access anymore). UA uses the same mathematic of probability distribution as pagerank along with other algorithm that help figure out:
1- Who is a real user
2- Who is a bot or a spammer
3- Who's content is most valued by the Steem community (for now)
Jesta is the top witness(#1)...and he has been elected to be one...doesn't it make sense that he is also the most influential content creator for now?
Finally, as more systems start using UA, people will start changing the way they follow since it has now a value attached to it...just like the way people use hyperlinks on the web.
You can be a sourpuss if you want but I would suggest bringing in some corrective feedback if you have any.

From what I read I get that it's importance is also reduced, and people shouldn't focus only on PR. Which shows its reliability (at least for me.) as you said it should be used along with other algorithms. We already have a working version of UA and can see the public list and we can judge its efficiency from it basically.
There are tools for hacky-seo tactics that converts sentences on articles with similar words so it looks like a unique article. There is also machine learning at this point. So it pretty pretty easy to game it, even big boys started to unfollow people just to increase their ua score :) these guys are the most valuable ones in the platform? yeah sure why not.
Let's discuss it when vote sellers start to sell follows. Like PR created a market for backlinks. #follow4follow :thumbs_up:
That might even decrease their own UA score @oups. But what's certain is that more UA is passed on to the remaining (active?) accounts they're following. Is there anything wrong with unfollowing accounts not active for quite some time?
Only if the wrong accounts are unfollowed.
I repeat my reservations here, as I have not yet been able to see any arguments that could have mitigated them:
As soon as a monetary value is attributed to the UA, users will pay for having their UA increased. Simply by buying the following of high-UA accounts. In order to prepare for this economy accounts will first of all do an UA- optimized clean-up of their followed accounts to increase the UA-increment that they can pass and thus sell to others.
Hoping that such practice will not be accepted by other high UA-users and countered accordingly I personally consider naive and risky.
I really can't discuss it further since I don't have enough knowledge about how it's calculated or else. I don't want to point fingers at all, just a quick sample,

Let's monitor if people able to game it, if you (project owners/contributors) are willing to solve any problems in your way.
There is nothing wrong with unfollowing unless it's done for climbing a ladder.
On other social media platforms people use this to gain more followers, follow for follow and purge the inactives at the end of the week. This way inactive ones not going to unfollow so you have a huge number on your profile meaning nothing without proper or enough communication. Like we already had many spammers in our wallets. "Send x sbd for resteems to millions..."
Well maybe I'm just being sourpuss and concerned about I won't have another chance to get in main feeds if it's implemented in various front-ends. Thanks to my UA score. First stakeholders, next vote buyers now UA will dominate feeds in a decentralized(!) platform.

I certainly applaud your contribution to this initiative @cryptoctopus, as well as your active participation in the community. I hope the @steem-ua folks manage to come up with a metric that more accurately reflects true authority/influence than reputation.
From what I have seen so far, my only reservation is that UA seems a little "thin" on valuing content creation and engagement on the site. I suppose you could argue that it doesn't have value... but there really wouldn't BE much here if people weren't starting and engaging in dialogue. Sure, people would still be developing apps for the Steem blockchain, but without the Steemit social front end... I am not sure Steem would be much more than "just another blockchain project" with its Discord and Github components. Steemit (and other social apps) is essentially what allows for that all-important marketing edge: Differentiation.
I hope perhaps @steem-ua will consider consulting with @paulag who's in the middle of developing a *contribution/engagement" metric.
But I'm totally with you in wanting to see an alternative influence metric develop!
We're now algorithmically curating content as:
UA_Vote = x * UA_Author + y * UA_Post + z * UA_Comment... in order to include post interaction / engagement.
And @paulag is a friend of mine I talk to regularly, including this topic!
PS, you got yourself a primer on this, because I'm about to post about it this evening (but I have a lot on my plate to manage everything happening regarding UA, UA-API and @steem-ua)!

I remember well the days of "Google watching" to try to figure out how to get our web sites to figure more prominently. And I understand that it's challenge. Metaphorically speaking, we all KNOW that "Sony Corporation" has authority in electronics, but what about the smaller guy who's every bit as expert but doesn't have a $100 million budget? Ranking for "value" will of course always be somewhat subjective...

There seems to be less an less activity on here (since I joined 12 months ago).
The 'mood' of the place has changed somewhat I think, also (obviously only my perception, but still...)
When I joined it was very positive, but not quite the same now. (and when I joined the prices were around the same, so it can't be just that..
Retention numbers on steemit seems to be massive problem - maybe this will help some...?
Mood definitely follows price trends over price. Last year, we were out of a bear market that brought Steem to $0.10...while now we are on a bear market that brought us down from a price of $6.00.
There is a lot of great stuff that happened but this place is still "beta" after all and much has to be improved.
Imagine how cleaner the byteball airdrop would have been if Steem-ua was a thing! There's a ton of potencial for fair airdrops and more trust in the community with their system, especially as HF20 approaches and our user base starts growing more and more! Can't wait to see what happens next!

This is indeed a great, I wish I had more power to delegate.
It's a tough job navigating through the current tag systems, so I give my best to tell new users about the niche tags that are manually curated such as #travelfeed or #cyclefeed.
If they could create a new tag system and pick this sort of tags I mentioned, it would be great. Easier to direct new and high-quality content to where they can be manually curated.
good stuff, it makes me smile to see established users delegating to the project. I can definitely imagine one of the front ends from Steem incorporating user authority somewhat easily in the near future, and I would absolutely love to see that come to fruition.

There should be more people like you on this platform, who recognize an excellent project like @steem-ua and support with their great voting power, in my case I am relatively new and my voting power does not reach 80 because I have had to change it to be able to survive, since I have not been very voted in my publications, but I trust that at some point not too far could also support projects like these, I congratulate you, my friend.

This is cool.
My UA is 4.3 and my rank is 2300 something. Considering 50k daily users I consider this a good place to be at.
And to quickly comment on the current reputation algo, I've been stuck at 59 for months and am .015 away from 60 now. I don't care too much, since I am enjoying the platform and accomplishing my goals here, but it would be nice to have more opportunities to build a better rep.

Question: how are things going with @TOKENBB? Havent heard an update of late...it seems like another very interesting project that can net great benefits to the STEEM blockchain.
We are still working hard at it. I can't give a date for sure but it's going to be very shortly. SteemConnect took a good 30 hours to figure out so that has set us back quite a bit. Will give an upvote soon.
