Are we alone in the Universe? I want to believe we are not.

Since I was a kid I have always been fascinated by the idea that we might not be alone in the Universe. I remember my grandpa used to buy a UFO magazine for me and my brother (Reporte OVNI) and I would read it all in one go believing every single word from it. The idea that we are the only form of life is really selfish and short minded, in my opinion. Just thinking that there might be other civilizations out there developing somewhere in the Universe blows my mind big time. I like to imagine there are many different forms of life, but thanks to Steven Spielberg we tend to associate extraterrestrial life with E.T. , a funny looking creature, but the possibilities are endless.

I think there could be plenty forms of life, from microscopical ones to creatures similar to the ones from Men In Black (the movie). Am I naive? Am I too influenced by Hollywood and its interpretation of extraterrestrial life? Maybe. But I like to think there is something going on out there. Lots of people, if not the majority of the world, believe in a form of "God" that is watching us from above and judging our acts. Well... since I do not buy the religious story, I like to put my faith in what I think is more likely to be the real deal.

There are so many theories and conspiracy theories around that it is tough to pick one to believe in. So I keep an open mind, I believe in all of them and in none of them at the same time. That is contradictory, isn´t it? Well I am a human and its in our nature to contradict ourselves. But my point is that I like to hear about different theories without judging them, many of them have some valid points, in my opinion. Who knows the truth about this topic? Nobody, period. Science can have all the tools available and media support, but still... they can´t confirm anything, Its all pure speculation.

In my early teens, and because of my fascination with extraterrestrial life, my mother (I mean... Santa) gifted me and my brother a telescope. It was a cheap one but still pretty decent for a kid. We (me and my brother) used to spend hours on end staring at the starry sky... looking for some strange activity. And we did get some, a few times we spotted a "light" moving in non orbital motion, from here to there. We were genuinely puzzled, since we had no clue what that could have been.

Then again in my early teens I had the pleasure to have dinner with my family together with Favio Zerpa. He is a Ufologist from Uruguay who spent half of his life researching the UFO phenomenon, a charming character with lots of interesting stories and anecdotes. Talking with him only made me believe more in this subject, since he spoke with such confidence that he was really convincing.

So... to sum up, I have no conclusion at all. I am still clueless about what is happening out there, just like everyone else. I think it is a matter of conviction or faith, if you want to believe or not. I definitely do believe, and hope to some day have an experience that will prove me right.

I'm not alone, my mom is in the kitchen.

An interesting read, thanks for posting:) I want to believe!

When you see the things up close and personal you can't help to believe. Exo planets are definitely the key...
