Ramble Time :: Update, Misc things :: Ulog #3

in #ulog6 years ago

Hello, all you wonderful and amazing readers. As always, thank you very much for reading what I post. I feel incredibly grateful to have such a wonderful audience on here. You guys rock!

Today I wanted to give some general updates and mention a few other things on my mind.

Update!

As I mentioned a few posts ago, these past few weeks have been rough. Life has been pounding me down. It reminds me of a line in Rocky 6.

You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.

So true. He goes on to say:

But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.

Great advice—advice I have always tried to follow, even before Rocky said it.

Here is the quote in full:

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!

It's a great bit in a great movie. Yes, great movie. To me the first Rocky stands up as the best, but the 6th entry is very close. Sly has a very limited range, but he can be a decent actor when he chooses to.

Anyway. Seems time for a header, doesn't it? Let's put one in, shall we.

Involvement

One result of life coming at me these past few weeks has been less engagement on this platform. I am usually pretty good on leaving comments, upvoting friends, etc, but I've been falling away from that the past few weeks. I have realized this myself, but I recently had a friend confirm it for me. I apologize to all of you. Going forward, I will attempt to be a bit better about that. Even if I don't have time to reply to comments, I will try to upvote them to let you know both that I saw the comment and really appreciate it. Will also try to make more time for comment on friends' posts or at least upvote them to show I am watching.

Even when things are good, the nature of my work means I might mostly disappear for weeks at a time. I try to keep up my daily posts when possible, but all else disappears. Moving forward, I want to try to maintain involvement a little better even during these busy periods.

Haiku

I posted the results of the recent haiku contest yesterday. Go check them out if you missed that post. I want to do more things with haiku on this platform. I have at least one piece in my drafts folder on the subject—a condemnation of the haikubot. As with all essays, I tend to be something of a perfectionist. That is, I want to say everything there is to say and be entirely clear. Which just isn't possible in just a few hundred words, I know, yet part of me keeps trying for this. One of my bad points. I will try to overcome this urge and push out the piece soon.

More Involvement

I recently delegated a little SP to @steem-plus and some to @Steem-ua. I have been using the Steem Plus extension for months and have gotten a ton of value out of it. If you haven't tried it, I fully recommend you do. It's a great project. And the Steem-UA is a good idea that I can get behind.

(more about Steem-UA and SteemPlus)

In general, I am invested in this platform and want to try to get more involved in helping its success. Please let me know if you have any requests on other things I can do to help out. Feel free to contact me on Discord where I am dbooster on many servers, or email me (my first and last name at gmail).

Hopefully my personal issues will iron out here soon so I can devote more time to this. Or at least focus on it more.

Mini-Lego!

I bought another mini-lego set. They are only ¥100, so we aren't really talking big investment here, but I enjoyed putting the last one together so thought I'd try another.

It makes me think more generally about lego. Nowadays, I see just as many adults doing lego as kids, and there are tons of lego sets aimed solely at adults. Is this kids toy transiting to an adult hobby? There is something satisfying about following the simple instructions and putting something together. Less foolproof than a model plane, but no less enjoyable.

Anyway, I have another. Expect a post on its construction sometime in the future.

Mega Man 1

I posted about this on Twitter, but will mention it here too. Recently I bought an old Famicom and Rockman 1. These are the Japanese versions of the NES and Mega Man 1. I was in the recycle shop with my son, he saw them and wanted them, and the price was cheap enough I thought why not.

Watching my son play it is a lot of fun. When I was a kid, Mega Man 1 was one of the few games I owned. Because of that, I played it all the time and mastered it. Despite not having played it for 30 years, my muscle memory can still take me through the levels unscathed. But I prefer sitting back and watching my son play it.

And man, that music is catchy.

Hmm... I guess that's about all on my mind. So ends another ulog. Leave comments if you have any and I will try to get back to you. Peace.

Ah Mega Man!! Classic. I used to love playing all the Mega Man games (and Kirby). Seems like those games have disappeared these days. Would love to see a remake.

There was a "cute" remake for the PSP a few years ago. They added voices, added two new bad guys, made the entire thing more kids friendly, and added more secrets. It was fun, but unfortunately didn't sell at all, which led to the remake of MM2 being cancelled (unfortunately!).

Keep moving forward. Yes. I guess sometimes it's good to rest, if life knocks you down, but you get up again and take another step. Deep breaths. Keep looking for the beauty. You're not alone. 💞

Thank you @katrina-ariel. I can always rely on you for positivity :)
