Hello Steemians, have a nice day. It's now a semestral break to students but not to teachers. The week is allocated for the In-Service Training (Inset), this is a teachers's workshop with the main purpose of improving learning that a teacher will transfer to the group of learners. With the three topics scheduled yesterday, I am counting this topic facilitated by the Disaster and Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) team of Lapu-lapu City. The topic The Idea of a Safe School, where each school produced a sketched output to be presented in front describing a safe learning environment and suggesting the spotted hazards for possible solutions.
This is our team doing the sketch with the brainstorming, we came up to draw our three -storey building with only a common stair as the entrance and exit that we found it so hazardous. Imagining hundreds of students having just a single passage, in times of calamity where everybody is panic with a common wish to go out from the building, we suggested to create a second stair at the center of the building and the third on the opposite of the existing stair. This is an old school building, it might be during the construction the hazard was not anticipated, we still use it for the reason that our main problem is we lack classrooms of almost 5,000 students enrolled this school year.
This is the crowd of teachers listening to the critiques of the facilitator when we suggested for the proper structure of our school building, fire extinguisher in every classroom, an employed nurse to stay in a school clinic (we don't have a clinic, the fact as what I said we lack classrooms, though we have 2 licensed nurses but they are hired as teachers so in times of emergency we still look up as to where the classrooms they are having classes to ask for help); supply of medicines there are times that even paracetamols and betadine are not available and even an ambulance because based on the actual experience that we have to call any teacher who has a vehicle to bring the patient to the hospital.
In sometimes, I can say that the law - enforcing agencies are strictly implementing to private institutions only but failed to have it in our public infrastructures like the building we have in our school.
Shall I say that the students in public schools are less fortunate comparing to those in private schools in terms of facility. Calling for equal previlige be also given to them, and so we as public servants will also find comfort in handling our clients who are the young students.
