Eversince we arrived in the province from the first week of August, we have been excitedly waiting for the only fruit to ripen. As for all those years that our 3 plants have been growing, this fruit is the FIRST ever! For me it is, but accordingly, its' her second fruit. Seriously.
As for my mom, she is not a fan. But because my brother painstakingly planted them infront of the house, she have endured through the years in watching them when she was still healthy. Well compared to her orchids, dragon fruit plants aren't the most pleasant to look at. And beside her orchids, these plants are just like bare cactus clinging to anything in their paths.
But has anyone seen them in bloom?

It has been raining from day 1 of arrival so i wasn't expecting for the flower to fall off so soon. Throughout the next days and weeks, visiting it kept me amused and doing photo shoots.

My mom has been in the hospital for more than a week now so my visitation has been less.
September 3rd photo shoot
Some redness is now noticeable to the wings and although it takes 2-3 months for a fruit to mature before it ripens, I have no clue on how far this fruit still have to go.

Dragon fruits are better harvested before they ripened or at the right time. Overripe, they are already wasted as they MUST NOT be eaten anymore. Remember my previous post with worms inside the flesh?
When buying, the fruit needs to be firm, not soft. And the tip of the wings shows a bit of brown discoloration. A lot is a No-No as it means IT IS OVERRIPE.

It all sounds very technical @immarojas.
thanks for the photos. It's very interesting to see the flower and then the fruit forming. i hope you are able to take some more shots as the fruit grows. 😊
That's the plan Gillian..wont be long before it gets ripe i hope. There's only 1 fruit!!!
Is that usual @immarojas or do mature trees have more fruits? 😊

wow, never seen it bloom. Really nice photography, thanks for these shots.
you're welcome!
Well done sir
That's amazing to see your photos
I haven't seen this type of flowers
Is that fruits?
Wow, super rare photo opportunity. That is very strange how this fruit blossoms. It looks like it is all coming inside out.
I think it started as a stalk which the end became rounder after the flower fell off. I've never seen this before so it's very intriguing.
Nice of you to stop by☺
