ULOG:SWEP PROGRAM DAY 4:: A VISIT TO THE MECHANICAL AND THE CIVIL-LAB

Student Work Experience Program(SWEP) is a internal program always hold in Nigeria tertiary educations. This program is different from Industrial Training(IT) which is always during the fourth year of every Engineering courses and Third Year for other science courses of Four Years.

it is an avenue for student to learn somethings outside their field of study

It is known as SWEP 1 & 2 for Year Two and Three students respectively!

We came across many Equipment during this visit and most of them are actually most useful in our daily activities

• The Coring machine: used to determine the thickness of any flour-cast of construction .
  
• Water Bath: a contains water heated to a given temperature, used for heating materials placed smaller containers.
  
• Soil sample for testing, we were made to understand that, some structures collapses due to not testing the soil before construction.
  
• Digishear Machine: also know as Direct and residual shear testing machine, Controls soil mechanics testing equipment.
  
  
  
  
• Bitumen Automatic Compactor

it was a great experience learning about something out side your field of study

While it is not uncommon for American students to be offered job experiences, it is not the standard. Of course an education has many intrinsic values. I witnessed first hand how exhausted employees and management would shoot themselves in the foot in what was textbook mistakes. That is bad, but what is worse is missing out on the opportunity to get students more actively engaged in providing for themselves while gaining the wisdom of the ages.
