The more you try and be positive, the easier it will get. I think the hardest part is catching yourself at the beginning of the loop and cutting it off...definitely takes a force of will and believing in the impossible :) Because, the impossible is possible, at least that's what I believe.
Glad to see you doing a challenge like this. Like you said, the more you sang the happier you felt. There's like a million studies that talk about how people who faked a smile ended up feeling happy. Seems like Bs...until you try it.
