Manhwa Time: The Strange Story of a Guy Next Door and a Novelist (Ulog Day 62)

in #ulog6 years ago

The title says it all. Today, I read an ongoing Manhwa (Korean Comic) by Byul Ae Byul. It's entitled, "The Strange Story of a Guy Next Door and a Novelist" and it is indeed a strange story. However, I'm looking forward to reading the chapters that are yet to be released.

It's tagged as Shounen Ai, so if you're not open minded enough to read BL or Boy's Love, it's better not to. (though this one is way milder than yaoi-tagged ones) Anyway, as you can see in the screenshot, the summary is too vague... but actually, the story and even the characters themselves are really interesting and well-made.

The novelist, Yeo Baek Ha (the guy with black hair), is narcoleptic. He suddenly falls asleep wherever he may be, so he often just stays home and write. As simple as it may seem, there's more to this character. He has this same weird dream for the past years which makes him a little uncomfortable. There's a red-haired boy, a black-haired teen and a dark brown-haired adult in his dream, but he feels that these guys are a single entity. What made him uncomfortable is that, this guy is romantically involved with him in his dream. And there's this separate mysterious silver-haired guy, too...

Aside from the dream, the novelist also can see something other people cant. Take a look at the screenshots below.

As you noticed, he saw some kind of dark smoke in a convenient store. He didn't know what exactly would happen, but he knew that some big accident would occur. There were also parts in the manhwa where he could see and hear some kind of ghosts or other similar things.

On the other hand, the guy next door Nam Jae-In (the guy with brown hair), also has a cool ability. He started having such ability when he was around 9 years old. Take a look at the screenshots below.

There was a scene when our dear novelist was kidnapped by some goons. The police who they reported the incident to were so passive that the guy next door couldn't stay put and wanted to use his ability to look for the novelist.

He simply touched his PC's CPU and voila! such a thing happened. He was able to trace up all the surveillance camera in which the car used by the kidnappers passed through. And yeah, he was able to locate it. The downside is that, it took him too much energy that he bled himself and was knocked out for 7 hours. However, if he needed very simple information, touching a phone wouldn't even graze him.

I really find these kinds of stuff interesting... having "shounen ai" feel is a great plus for me, too. The story is still ongoing, so I'm looking forward to reading more because these two characters might be more connected to each other than they really are.

How would you feel if you have the same dream as someone? Wouldn't it be awesome? Perhaps some might find it creepy, but still... I have my hopes up. I hope the rest of the story won't disappoint me. For now, I feel great reading it. And I love how the simple story progressed slowly but surely into an interesting one! <3
