Welcome to the ongoing tale of a guy.....and a ladder.......bringing the internet to the masses! One of my alter-egos is a wire runner for the local ISP which gets me up on my feet and out in the village as a nice change and a diversification of income.
I fired off a #dtubesnap earlier this week showcasing a minute or so of an installation if you want the immersive experience. I didn't really almost fall but I did step hard on the eaves trough thinking it was a ladder wrung. Nobody was injured in the making of this @dtube video

This client was right in the middle of town which, ironically, is host to some of the sketchiest apartments around. Not too bad here though all things considered. You can see the leaves are definitely changing colour and jumping from the trees. Not too many days like this left and before too long, I will be up the ladder in the freezing cold.
The water station over by the golf course needs internet too apparently. Things are still pretty green but not for long as November slips in.
So much neat engineering in this old place as I see a mix of ancient plumbing and newer controllers.
Much of my work was with the corporate clients or behind the desk but I didn't let that stop me from enjoying a beer. This one is from a Brewery I have blogged about many times before https://nickelbrook.com/our-beers/lost-in-orbit/ It is a little watery for my taste but it did have a little fruit to it and I ended up liking it enough by the end.
I found this post from the Asapers curation post. This much be fun I have run cable in building before I got my desk IT job. I use to like it a lot was odd but to run those cables that might as well be magic to most of the world who don't know how the internet works.
Yes indeed. It is a strange paradox between IT and Construction. I enjoy both so combining them into a specialized product has enabled me to learn something new and diversify my income.
Plus getting out and doing some physical work is always good.
lol looks like loads of fun.
I'm replacing some dimmers and pulling some network drops at church. Nothing like wonderful attic work to keep in shape...
Yah I wired a really old church to become a restaurant. I coughed that hundred year old shit out of my lungs for weeks. They serve good beer now though!
As Willy Wonka says, I know a worse one. I did a "historic" courthouse that had a bell/clock tower. Did a bunch of work but had to backlight the clocks in the tower. The attic was infested with bats, there was so much guano that the ceilings were trying to fall. They literally hauled it out in dump truck loads. No one had been the attic in years, it took 2 people to push the attic panel out. When they did, it was like sands through the hourglass pouring through the hole.
Between that and fighting the bats it was pretty bad.
I rewired a wastewater treatment plant, which was probably worse, but way too much nasty for a comment post... On both of those, we would have to decontaminate, shower and change before going home, which I guess was ok, getting paid to take a shower...
