This method is used mostly for annual and perennial plants Which do not require long growth periods, plants that cannot be reproduced by other means or for plants that are reproduced through hybridization
Some crops are propagated solely through seeds. e g maize, rice, cowpea, some by vegetative means e. g cassava. yam and some by both seeds and vegetative means. e. g onion, cocoa. coffee: e. t. c.
2.asexual propagation : This term refers to the reproduction of new plants from means other than seed. It involves the use of old plant part ( s) to multiply it. These methods of asexual propagation include the following:
*Cutting
*layering
*division
*budding
*grafting.
