The 50 states in alphabetical order are as follows: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Additionally, there is the District of Columbia as well as U.S. territories and associated states: American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Midway Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Delaware is the oldest state in the union, having joined on Dec. 17, 1787, followed by Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut. The most recent states added to the union have been Alaska and Hawaii, which were both admitted in 1959.
