THE BACKYARD OF MY HEAD

By Samuel Oyin Oludipe

The backyard of my head is the tavern
Of the world.Everybody says it crawls there
Like the giggles of two thousand rats
Sojourning by, but hanging a gourd of piss

It smells in the backyard of my head;
Everybody says so. They paint the contours
Of my crashing rafter with a finger
Of laughter. They say creepers twine my door

Friend and foe, living and dead, day and night
Gather in the backyard of my head, for a concert
And I do not charge. They come to listen
To the creaking cracks of my soul

For theirs have fallen entirely apart,
And in the backyards of their heads,
No music can be heard

REVIEW OF THE BACKYARD OF MY HEAD

By Fatukasi Olanrewaju

The backyard of my head is the tavern
Of the world.Everybody says it crawls there
Like the giggles of two thousand rats
Sojourning by, but hanging a gourd of piss

This is a norm in our world today, a scenario where the world is concern about others and there's no proper check for ourselves. A tavern is a place of business where people gather to drink alcoholic beverages and be served food, and in most cases, where travelers receive lodging. On a very fateful day, a tavern is usually overcrowded just like we have on the planet earth- human population.

It smells in the backyard of my head;
Everybody says so. They paint the contours
Of my crashing rafter with a finger
Of laughter. They say creepers twine my door

Mistakes, misconceptions, errors, oversights, lapses of an individual most especially people who have by chance attain limelight (celebrities) are usually and frequently pointed out and misjudgment are passed to such fellow. The world seek to find fault in others doing, who checks the ones that check others ?

For theirs have fallen entirely apart,
And in the backyards of their heads,
No music can be heard

The sum up the whole poem above, where is the world tolerance in our world today? Where is acceptance of individuality differences practiced in our world today?
If you can't practice it , don't preach it
Tolerance have been defined in various form

the ability or willingness to tolerate the existence of opinions or behaviour that one dislikes or disagrees with.

the capacity to endure continued subjection to something such as a drug or environmental conditions without adverse reaction.

To err is human We all know this phrase or sentence, but how many of us practice the ideology.
Tribalism fights, war, riot, terrosism all raised to the brim when we lost of sense of acceptance , our sense of hospitality, our sense of humanity, our sense of living.

Tolerance + Acceptance +Understanding = Better World

  • Tolerance is a virtue. It is a version of the golden rule in that, insofar as we want others to treat us decently, we need to treat them decently as well
  • Acceptance goes a step beyond tolerance. If a sign of tolerance is a feeling of I can live with A (behavior, religion, race, culture, etc.) acceptance moves beyond that in the direction of A is OK.You can tolerate something without accepting it, but you cannot accept something without tolerating it.
  • Understanding is the sympathetically aware of other people's feelings; tolerant and forgiving.
It is possible to tolerate or accept someone without understanding him or her; and the same goes for tolerating or accepting a different culture, believe, religion, race e.t.c. It is also possible to understand a culture or a person without acceptance, or even tolerance—think, for example, individuals that are of undercover spies(they can understand their targets but cannot accept or tolerate them).

Tolerance and/or acceptance are desirable, but they are not a substitute for understanding. They are relevant for getting along with others in the world (though understanding helps), but understanding is essential for the social and behavioral sciences and important in making the world a better place to live in
Am still on the quest of making the world a better place to live In
