We now have a wormery!
The wormery was very easy and even my youngest (almost 2) could help.
We got a large glass jar (it may or my not resemble a well known chocolate spread jar), filled it with soil, added a few leaves and then the earthworms that Tayler had found outside. We also made a newspaper sleeve to go around it to block out the light for them.
This was a completely unplanned activity that was started because Tayler wanted to find insects even though it was raining outside! He found worms so I thought why not! A quick online search and we had a wormery!

It’s so neat and compact. Whenever I think of wormeries big old glass tanks come to mind.
Ace to see this was a child led activity :)

Ah but big old glass tanks would have cost big old money! Plus I don’t have one in the back of a cupboard just in case they are interested in worms! I do, however, have a large quantity of glass jars! Plus, you can see the same worm tracks whether the tank is big or small!
And if they get bored they can be safely released again without harm to the environment. Love it!
I've dropped a link to this in the home ed post promo.
Exactly! Young kids love pets but get easily bored. We had pet snails before. They were great fun, then we released them!
Thanks for sharing my post! Xx
Love this! Hands on learning and fun! It’s a good way to teach children how to care for nature!
